Product:  Begali Sculpture
Begali Sculpture The Sculpture key is the culmination of many years of work, combining the most desirable elements of the very best paddles in the world and adding some exclusive features of its own.

The Sculpture has been featured in an article in the Wall Street Journal

All fixed parts are completely made from AISI-304 stainless steel - a virtually indestructible material that can only be shaped to this perfection with specialised machinery. It is polished to a finish that should stay perfect for a lifetime, and, unlike plated surfaces, you can always remove any blemishes with fine abrasive compounds like jewellers rouge or car polish.

The arms of this paddle, with a 1:1 leverage ratio, are extremely short and are made from a lightweight alloy. The finger pieces are carved out of a very light and exceptionally stiff and robust carbon fiber material that provides excellent tactile feedback. The resulting minimal moving mass, in combination with the highest grade racing bearings, results in a responsiveness and precision that you will probably not find in any other paddle.

The Sculpture key has the fine adjustments of Begali's best paddles, and gold contacts are a standard feature. A protective dust cover is also included.

Product:  Begali Simplex
Begali Simplex The Simplex is a iambic key with a heavy (1.4 kg or more than 3 pounds) gold or palladium plated base and gold plated components, using long springs for the return force. Like Begali's other keys it is manufactured using NC machinery for absolute precision. Micro-threaded screws are used for all adjustments. The arms are held by 4 ball bearings that are imbedded in the base, and they are made of a light-weight alloy that provides very low moving mass - this allows excellent responsiveness at high speeds even when set for a very light touch. The contacts are 925/000 silver. The key comes with a protective dust cover.

With its uniquely shaped base and finger pieces this key is not only a precision instrument for the CW operator but also a piece of art that you can proudly display!

Product:  Begali Simplex Mono
Begali Simplex Mono The Simplex Mono is a single lever key with a heavy (1.4 kg or more than 3 pounds) gold or palladium plated base and gold plated components. This photo shows the palladium plated base - for a visual impression of the gold plated base and the dust cover, take a look at the Simplex. Like the other keys it is manufactured using NC machinery for absolute precision. Micro-threaded screws are used for all adjustments. The pivot uses ball bearings that are imbedded in the base, and the moving components are made of a light-weight alloy. This key uses a novel approach with a segmented lever that provides decoupling of the two sides and an exceptionally well defined neutral position. The contacts are 925/000 silver. The key comes with a protective dust cover.

If you come from a history of using mechanical bugs or straight keys you may find the operation of a single lever key easier than the "squeeze" mode of iambic paddles. And even if you are using a dual lever key today you may want to get this precision key for its sheer beauty and the occasional diversion to create dits and dahs in a more old-fashioned way.

Product:  Begali Magnetic Classic
Begali Magnetic Classic The Magnetic Classic, as the name implies, uses magnets for the return rather than the springs of the other iambic keys. The construction uses the same quality components found in the Simplex, like precision ball bearings and light-weight arms, and the heavy steel base and other components are gold plated.

Using magnets rather than springs for the return has distinct advantages, especially if you prefer a light touch with close spacing. Since the moving magnets are imbedded in micro-threaded tubes they can be adjusted with utmost precision and maintain their setting over a wide range of temperature variation. The magnets on the arms are mounted close to the pivot which keeps the effective moving mass low and allows a responsiveness at high speeds that is unique for magnetic paddles.

Product:  Begali Signature
Begali Signature The Signature Edition embodies the experience gained with the Magnetic Classic and the Magnetic Professional paddles, and it incorporates improvements that were suggested by Begali customers. It was designed to be one of the finest paddles that can be produced with today’s techniques and materials.

It starts with the same heavy base used in Begali's other paddles, and you can order it with gold plating or palladium plating. The precision bearings are specially selected and matched, and they exceed the standards that are usually applied for laboratory instruments. They are concealed in the base and in the central bearing block for a clean visual design. The friction springs for the gap adjustments are hidden inside the contact posts. The cable connection is made through a 1/8” stereo jack in the base - so no unsightly cables are dangling around when it is not connected to your keyer.

The finger pieces are made of an anodized aluminum alloy, and we provide two sets: one has the longer geometry that our plastic paddles for the other Magnetic paddles have, shown here, and a second set that is slightly shorter. Some of Begali's pilot users preferred the more direct translation ratio offered by shorter finger pieces - but since there was no clear cut choice Begali included both shapes and leave it up to you to determine your preference.

Using magnets rather than springs for the action has distinct advantages, especially if you prefer a light touch with close spacing. For that same reason the arms are made of a black anodized aircraft alloy that is very light but rigid.

Each of these paddles is personally inspected by Piero to make sure that it meets Begali's exacting standards, and it comes with a signed certificate of authenticity that also records the manufacturing date. (each paddle has a serial number engraved in the base)

Once you have experienced this paddle in operation we are sure that you will join the ranks of Begali's many enthusiastic customers

Product:  Begali Blade
Begali Blade
The Blade is probably the ultimate straight key. Based on a “Swedish Pump” design, which is renowned for effortless keying, the Blade key goes far beyond typical keys with this mechanism in finish and visual appearance. The gold plated components provide a stunning visual contrast to the heavy cast iron base, which gives this key an unyielding presence on your table. The Navy-style knob rides low above the table and is perfectly positioned for European or American style keying.

The return force is created by a blade spring that is attached to the lever, making it finely adjustable and completely consistent over long time periods. That blade spring also provides a frictionless way to hold the lever in place.

If you are currently using another straight key, chances are that the Blade will displace it from your operating table.

Product:  Begali Camelback
Begali Camelback The camelback shape for a straight key dates back more than 150 years. Charles Chubbock in 1848, Thomas Hall, and Chester Brothers in New York produced some of the earliest keys with the characteristic “hump”. This key was inspired by the beauty of that shape, although it does not try to replicate any of the classical designs. Most old camelback designs have the hump located before the pivot to shift the mass more towards the knob. Begali's design puts the hump right at the pivot for a very elegant fluid design.

The Camelback has a very heavy - about 3.5 pounds - cast iron base which lets it sit rock steady on your table. All other parts are gold plated for corrosion resistance and a finish of timeless beauty, and the contacts are 925/000 silver. One unique aspect of the design is the use of precision bearings and the placement of the spring behind and very close to the pivot. This places most of the moving mass in front of the spring and provides for effortless keying even at high speeds. This key, although it looks the part, is anything but old fashioned and is based on ergonomic and dynamic principles that are thoroughly modern. Whatever your keying style and ability is, you will find that this key can be adjusted to bring out your full potential. And if your fist has gotten a bit QLF over the years this key will still make a beautiful statement in your showcase.

Product:  Begali Contour
Begali Contour
The Contour key combines gracefully rounded shapes, similar to the Pearl key, with a more traditional rectangular base, which makes it a little heavier and larger than the Pearl. The same high-performance mechanism and the same exquisite finish make this a key that produces a statement on the air and on the table. If the Pearl is a beauty queen, this is her perfectly matched companion.

The base is available with three different plating materials: gold, palladium, or a bright silver nickel. If you select gold or palladium as the finish for the base, then the bearing block will be gold plated. If you select nickel as the finish for the base, then the bearing block will also be plated with nickel.

The adjustment screws and the contact posts are always gold plated. The contacts are 925/1000 silver. The finger pieces are a red anodized aluminum, like those shown on the Pearl key - the silver finger pieces in this photo were only made for the prototype.

Product:  Begali Graciella Jr
Begali Graciella Jr
The Graciella Jr paddle puts a vertical mechanism on a round base. Unlike its older sister, the Graciella, the height of the mechanism is not adjustable. But beauty and mechanical perfection obviously runs in the family.

The base is available with three different plating materials: gold, palladium, or a bright silver nickel. If you select gold or palladium as the finish for the base, the body of the vertical assembly, with the dragon logo, will be gold plated, and the front of the vertical assembly will be palladium plated. If you select nickel as the finish for the base, then both parts of the vertical assembly will also be plated with nickel, as shown in the photo.

The adjustment screws and the contact posts are always gold plated. The contacts are 925/1000 silver. The finger pieces are a black anodized aluminum - the silver finger pieces in this photo were only made for the prototype.

Product:  Begali HST
Begali HST
The HST Single Lever key was inspired by a design that several of the top competitors at the High Speed Telegraphy Competition in Pordenone (HST 2008) were using. Their keys were home made from simple materials, but they were capable of very high speeds in the right hands. So, we couldn’t resist trying to take that basic design and improve on it - and the result is the HST key.

It uses a heavy cast iron base which makes sure that it will not move. The long lever is made from aluminum alloy and held by two precision racing bearings at the back. The front surface of the lever is grooved to prevent your fingers from slipping. The contact spacing and the tension can be adjusted using gold plated screws with a fine pitch.

Product:  Begali Intrepid
Begali Intrepid
The design of semi-automatic keys has changed very little since Horace Martin sold his first “bug” more than a hundred years ago. The Intrepid, however, introduces a distinct new architecture that breaks this mold. The return forces and damping are produced by magnets for the utmost in consistency and durability. The single machined arm is held by precision bearings for reliably smooth action, and the design ensures that it always returns to the exact same neutral position. The precision adjustments are embedded in two gold plated “walls” which also protect the mechanism.

The hoizontal pendulum, which produces the dits of a Morse character, is actuated by an ingenious lever mechanism, and it faces toward the operator. The sliding weights allow you to adjust the speed from about 18wpm to more than 40wpm.

The Intrepid, with its distinct cast iron base, is a heavy-weight of about 6 pounds.

Product:  Begali Postal Key
Begali Postal Key This key was created in commemoration of Gugliemo Marconi’s 125th birthday in 1999. It is the faithful replica of a Swiss postal key that can be seen gracing Albert Einstein’s work desk at the Patent Office in Zurich. The original design dates back to 1861 - but this recreation uses contemporary techniques that make this antique probably more enjoyable to use than the original ever was.

The base is a very heavy (about 3.5 pounds) iron cast, and all other parts are made from gold plated brass, and the contacts are 925/000 silver. Since the knob is riding relatively high above the table it may not be as relaxing in actual use as the Begali Spark key, but as a conversation piece nothing beats it. And even if you’re not a brass pounder you may want to get one as a spectacular paper weight - after all Albert Einstein had one, and he can’t have been wrong.

Product:  Begali Spark
Begali Spark The Spark is a compact straight key with a heavy cast iron base. The base has a charcoal black phosphatized finish (as shown in this photo), and all other components are gold plated. The Navy-style knob rides low above the table, letting your arm rest comfortably even at high speeds. If you are heading for straight key night you owe it to yourself to get one of these!

Even if you feel more at home with one of the iambic paddles - the Spark is not only a very precise modern straight key, but it also makes a beautiful conversation piece.

Product:  Begali Traveler Light
Begali Traveler Light The Magnetic Traveler Light is a iambic key that addresses the needs of the traveling or backpacking ham in a no-compromise design. It combines constructive elements found in the Simplex and Magnetic Classic keys in a rugged package that will survive the rigors of a roving life. Using sealed precision bearings, repelling magnets, micro-threaded adjustments, gold contacts as a standard, and light-weight alloys, this is a unique key that is sure to become a classic.

The Magnetic Traveler Light uses a unique folding base that protects the finger pieces during transport, and in the open position it provides the required lateral stability. The "Light" version, shown here, uses a light-weigth alloy for the base and the "wings", and it weighs in at about 1.5 pounds - so it is still heavy enough to stay put during desktop usage. For the backpacking user who may not have a desk the Magnetic Traveler Light is equipped with attachments and a strap to fasten it to your leg.
