Love my FT -991
Mark|02-01-2016
Love my FT 991 I have found it very easy to use and a good all round performer on all bands. Also purchased the GSV3000 PSU for this rig which is very good. Great service from ML&S - Thank you.
Very Pleased - Love My FT - 991

Much easier to use than you would think by just looking at it prior to using the radio! After only owning the radio for a week it feels like a lot longer, it's so easy to use. Good ears and very good audio reports being received! And it goes without saying normal good service from ML&S.
Excellent

Great service from ML&S as always, ordered mine 8am Wednesday and it arrived midday Thursday. Delighted with the radio, I've run it side by side with my FTDX-3000 on HF and can't tell the difference. Easy to use straight out of the box without reading the manual. Some people complain about all the menus, put it this way: The radio works fine with the pre-set settings, if you want to dive in and have a play then you can but you don't have to. These settings were things you didn't even have access to on your old 847/897. All the day to day stuff is on the 'front panel' menus, you just scroll through them like pages in a book. If I have one complaint it's that it only has 100 memories, what were Yaesu thinking ! Hopefully a firmware upgrade will sort that out.
Yaesu FT-991 - Brilliant - simple brilliant!

Update to FT-991 Review from M0BAH
Andy|08-07-2015
Hi all, I have just found out that it is possible to name the memories through the CAT system, I felt that this was worth mentioning as it is so much easier cutting and pasting fro the internet that typing text in through the touch screen. Thanks, Andy.

This radio impresses me every time I use it, I always get a brilliant audio report whether its using the mic eq, processor or both, turnerd on or off. I am currently using the Yaesu MD-200 though which I'm sure helps, but others are geting good results from the stock mic. Now they have released a few 'Firmware updates' this radio is quite exceptional. One thing I was worried about was the AM audio because when it was first released in America the audio output was quite unuasable, really quiet and very low quality, I heard a recording from a ham there, that appears to be cured now. I have listened to my audio utilising the built in audio recorder and playback feature (it has 5 seperate recordings 20 seconds each), but keep the levels right down on AM. I am listening on a FT817 with no flashy filters so is essentially unprocessed and raw. It will not compete with the dedicated beautiful 'Vintage Valve radios' but its a start to keep AM going. The SSB is as I stated earlier, exceptional and very punch and not over processed like some you hear on the bands. The 2m and 70cm performance is really impressive with really good sensitivity figures and decent selectivity, with lots of fine features, unfortunately, I have not used the digital C4FM yet as no-one in my area has it, unless you know different. (Washington, West Sussex) The touch display gives me no problems and I have chubby fingers as well, I did wonder about that at the time but I needn't have. I should give you bad point in the name of balance but it is still the honeymoon period, but it can get very warm when used continuosly but the fan cuts in in variable speeds and controls that, I have had to reboot once or twice due to anomolies but nothing bad, no data loss. There is little software available for direct memory control but the CAT covers all of the other parameters except naming memories, you cannot name them through the CAT system only through the radio. I have checked the CAT manual as well. I use some Australian software writen by an amateur radio but its still in its infancy but good. I hope that helps, I am sorry about the waffling but I am a ham remember, it is a bit pro FT-991 but thats my own experience, you may know of others who dont feel the same way as I do. Andy (M0BAH)
