Default Echolink & Yaesu 857D problems

Before anyone complains this topic has been asked before --- SORRY!
I would appreciate some help before my Yaesu 857D and Tigertronics usb Signalink go to meet their makers in the sky......
I am not thick by any stretch of the imagination -BUT I think it would easier to knit fog that to get the two to connect to Echolink
I have a computer using XP with all the latest downloads installed, Echolink 2.0.908, 857D and the interface above
I have followed all of the instructions I can find but the b**ody thing still refuses to transit on Echolink.
I have a cable from the rear of the rig plugged into the Cat socket using a 6 pin mini lead going to the interface which is powered by USB as per the manual.
I have set all of the preferences as instructed and yet when I key the mike to transmit the rig works but the interface does not acknowlege any transmissions and the screen on Echolink does not detect my transmissions !
What am I doing wrong or am I thick?
let me know before I throw my oldest favourite toy out in disgust !
and yes my menu number 20 is set to CAT

Here is the setup procedure I use:

Setup the Linksys WAG300N and Zone Alarm Security Suite Firewall for Echolink.

1. Launch your web browser on any computer that's wired or wirelessly connected
to the router.
2. Type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar.
3. On the user name and password prompt, type admin.
Note: admin would not work for me until I did a hard reset on the WAG300N
4. On the router setup page, go to the Applications and Gaming tab, then the Port Forwarding sub tab.
5. Fill in the details:

Application: Echolink Put in the port number on both the start and end port,
5198 and 5199 Select the protocol (TCP, UDP, or Both). Both also works.
Type in the IP address of the computer that you are using the application with, e.g. 192.168.1.???
Put a check mark in the enable box.

6. Save your settings.
7. Close the page

In addition, for me at least, Zone Alarm Security Suite Firewall had to be reconfigured:

Allow incoming UDP ports: 5198,5199 Allow outgoing UDP ports: 5198,5199
Allow outgoing TCP ports: 5200

This need to be done with the Internet Zone AND the Trusted Zone Portforward
