By far the best people to help you are Icom UK, who provide super support for high end radio owners.

There is almost certainly a Yahoo group, or you could post to the Yahoo IC-7800 group where there is much expertise and owners with knowledge of both radios.

Thanks Derek,

I have been dealing with Icom UK since mid December on this one.

I was looking for fellow owners to try a few tests

I think it is a sound/speaker distortion problem Roger is having with the radio, an M0 friend of mine has tried to help/test, with the volume of the radio set to 50% (why that high I'm not sure) and his was fine, this was tried with his external speaker and the internal one.

Maybe if Roger posted what he would like people to try on there 7700 (lucky people hi hi) they could report back.

Its not the fact that the rear speaker connection is mono whereas the front headphones connection is stereo, is it? Sticking headphones in the rear connection gives you sound in only one ear!

Hi just an update....

I recently received the radio back from IcomUK for the third time, stating that it was "within spec",
so despite quite a good number of fellow Radio Club members witnessing the the distorted audio, and sendimg them MP3 files of the problem and photos of the audio on a specrum analyser, I gues Imust be imagining it...not!!!

I will, therefore have to live with it! you dont get much for almost £5k these days do you?

No issues with my 7700 after 6 months use, driving SP20, Radio Shack Minimus 7's or Kenwood cans.
It's not something that crops up on the 7700 reflector (Yahoo), plenty of things do, but not distorted AF on rx.

A bizarre and unfortunate one-off problem that Icom can't seem to replicate.
