The TS-590S marked a bold new chapter in Kenwood’s proud history of high-performance HF transceivers. Featuring a narrow-band Roofing Filter, it significantly reduces interference from unwanted signals, resulting in excellent RX performance and revealing signals that would be hidden to lesser rigs. With IF AGC based on advanced DSP technology, Kenwood has essentially redefined HF performance.

Picked up 590 at Newark 2013. Having used it during the mayhem of both CQ WW contests I'm still absolutely delighted with it. The IF DSP really sharpens up the xtal filters and deepens the stop-bands too. You would have to spend a LOT more money to get a rig with a MARGINALLY better performance, and you'd only notice that in very quiet QTHs in very specific band conditions. PREFER BIG RIGS ?...I've had big rigs since 1970 but it didnt take me long to get used to the 590. Plenty of RAOTA members use the 590 so dodgy eyesight or clumsy hands wont limit your enjoyment. DON'T LIKE MENUS ? ... Me neither, but those on the 590 are very rarely needed, and completely intuitive. For CW users all the controls you need have front panel knobs/buttons anyway. PREFER SIMPLE RIGS ? ...The 590 is simple to use, straight out of the box, and once you're familiar with the basics you can look into more advanced options if/when you feel the need. Thus far I havent needed to. I've been too busy working the DX with it.
