Yaesu 450D (new, unused)

The Yaesu 450D matches and keeps up with a lot of the more expensive higher end receivers.
I bought this radio as I already had mobile radios to cover 2m/70cm so I as really looking for a decent mid range radio that would be rugged and perform well.
Out of the box I was amazed by the weight and the build quality, sturdy heavy but petite radio with a big lcd display on front and tuning dial for easy band hopping.
I connected the radio to the longwire antenna and connected up the scu-17 data interface.
Performed a quick power/vswr test and straight onto 14.230mhz I went.
In came the SSTV signals through the interface and made easy by this beautiful radio. I was impressed by the Smeter readout and the smoothness in navigating the tuning immediately.
So I decided I would test the radio further and away from the data side I went onto our local net. All the nearby stations were coming through crystal clear and further away stations could easily be rescued from the mud by using the DSP to pull them out of it.
On ssb I switched to the MD100 desk mic to test the modulation and voice output of the radio.
We performed a lot of tests and found the only drawback to be no matter how much you fiddle the settings (mic eq, gain etc) you cannot bring the kHz upto 3kz at the peak. Output maxes out around 2.8Khz on this radio but I suppose using a standard mic with no compression you can't expect too much.
Overall I would highly recommend this HF set to anyone. Ideal for a beginner or a serious player too as it's a small but powerful radio and would make for a good /mm rig too.
Well done.. Cheers
Excellent !

Have been using my 450D for about 18 months as my only rig.
Have always had excellent audio reports.
It also works perfectly with the Yaesu SCU-17 PC interface unit so I can do the data modes through WSJT-X.
An absolute classic rig.
Good for any licence level!!

Been using my FT - 450D for a while now never been happier, if I can find my way around it then anyone can!!
Even used it on a special event station where even the non Yaesu operators were impressed!!
Brilliant Radio
