Wouxun KG-UV8H 2m and 70cms 144/430MHz

I absolutely love this new Wouxun hand held, its built to last and would withstand the riggers of back packers. Battery life is excellent, the colour screen is large and easily read if your eye sight isn't to great.. So far programming the menu settings is easy enough.. I'm one of those that prefer to play and discover how to program it, the manual only comes out if i'm really stuck.. One down side is the cover over the external microphone and data program socket is impossible to open, you literally have to remove it totally using a screw driver on the screw to remove it totally, no doubt these will get lost.. I've not had this rig long but my 1st impressions have been extremely positive. The rig is well built, sits well comfortably hand and the battery life is exceptional. The screen is crisp and clear, although the layout and colours are different to the illustration on the box and on the website but equally as informative and easy to view. The audio quality is excellent as it the speaker. I was received well on my local repeater whilst walking in dense woodland running 1W. My only criticism is that of the manual, whilst it covers most of the functionality it fails to highlight some of the basics ie. Switching Duel Watch on/off - no mention anywhere. I worked it out eventually ( pushing the RPT button whilst in standby mode ). A small disappointment is that it doesn't come with a programming cable and software as standard. You'll need to pay £16 extra. Manually programming is very easy but if you like to name your channels this can be quite laborious cycling through a plethora of characters before getting the the alphabet of letters. All in all tho this is a great radio and offering a quality build, feature rich and excellent audio and exceptional value for money.
