PT-8000A HF/VHF Transceiver • 200 W • incl. Power Supply and Microphone T9 (Blue)

The PT-8000A is a transceiver which is equipped with two identical high performance receivers. The radio has been developed and is at present manufactured in Germany. It represents the leading edge of RF-technology in Ham Radio. The PT-8000A incorporates technologies never seen in Ham Radio gear until now.

0.005 ppm Reference A low noise SAW-VCXO at 640 MHz is disciplined by a 10 MHz crystal oven (OCXO). Employment of 1 GHz DDS oscillators guarantees low noise characteristics to an extent which could only be achieved by fixed oscillators in the past. Noise suppression of -160dBc @ 10 kHz at 14.2 MHz is the result. Frequency stability of 10 MHz OCXO is 5 x 10-9. Any long term frequency deviation can be compensated by software calibration. 10 MHz reference signal is available for peripheral systems at 10 MHz OUT terminal. In case an external reference is deemed necessary internal 10 MHz OCXO is shut off.

This concept represents state of the art for low noise oscillators (VFO).

Local Oscillators (VFOs) - 54.9 MHz LO / 14.2 MHz RX
PT-8000A´s 7 DDS based oscillators at 1 GHz for two identical receivers and its transmitter guarantee superb spectral purity for reception and transmit.

Preselector: automatically tuned thus providing the decisive first selectivity between 1.8 and 30 MHz. Basic studies at Hilberling GmbH revealed the correlation between the achievable large signal tolerance of the material used plus the transformation ratio and the sheer mass of the toroids used in the LCcircuit.

The combination of crystal filters, analogue audio filters and sophisticated DSP which operates at audio frequencies guarantees the outstanding selectivity. The DSP is tasked to improve the passband of the crystal filter especially at its flanks and to ensure narrow bandwidths down to 50 Hz. What is more the DSP provides in addition to the IF-notch at 10.7 MHz a multitone audio notch and an excellent feature to enhance readability known as noise reduction. The PT-8000A is equipped with two banks (LSB/USB) of 16-pole crystal filters (MAIN- and SUB-RX). To protect these filters from in-band intermodulation two 0-degree balanced high level 10.7 MHz filters are placed at the front end.

Power Amplifier A novelty in Ham Radio is PT-8000A’s 200 Watt continuous coverage power amplifier (PT8-PA200) from 1.8 MHz to 148 MHz. It exploits 50 VDC UHF FETs. The new broadband PA200 has been developed based on Hilberling’s 20 years of experience in R&D of RF-generators. Special emphasis has been laid on high reliability for this amplifier. Operating PT-8000A at 13.8 V (i.e. from battery power) shuts off PA200 hence 10 Watt from class-A operating driver are available from 1.8 MHz to 148 MHz.

For the first time in Ham Radio equipment the PT-8000A incorporates 7 DIPLEXER/Low Pass Filters at the output of the PA. They prevent reflection of harmonics by low pass filters and antennas. The automatic tuner guarantees optimum working conditions and power transfer for the finals.
