ML&S Workshop Modification

ACOM Amplifier 110V Power Supply Conversion

Workshop conversion of a compatible ACOM amplifier's internal power supply for operation from 110V mains, intended for customers in the USA and other countries using 110–120V mains supplies.

Purchase with your ACOM amplifier

This modification is intended to be ordered at the same time as a new or used ACOM amplifier purchased from ML&S. Our workshop will convert the amplifier's built-in mains power supply to the required 110V configuration before the amplifier is despatched.

Important – workshop modification

Once the 110V conversion has been completed, the cost of this modification is non-refundable. Please ensure you require the 110V version before placing your order.

ACOM 110V Conversion Service

THINKING OF DOING IT YOURSELF?

This is considerably more involved than changing a plug

ACOM's own mains-conversion procedure requires the amplifier to be opened and work to be carried out around its internal high-voltage power supply.

The amplifier contains voltages of up to 3000 V DC, which ACOM specifically describes as potentially lethal. Residual voltage may remain inside the amplifier even after it has been disconnected from the mains.

What the official conversion procedure involves

1. Completely disconnect the amplifier
The mains lead and all other cables must be removed before work begins.
2. Wait for the high-voltage supply to discharge
ACOM specifies a minimum waiting period of 30 minutes before the amplifier cover is removed.
3. Remove the amplifier's outer cover
The chassis has to be opened to gain access to the internal mains and high-voltage sections.
4. Verify the high-voltage safety crowbar
The internal safety mechanism must be checked to ensure the high-voltage circuit remains safely connected to chassis ground while the amplifier is open.
5. Access the internal mains PCB
The mains-voltage selection system is located internally alongside the amplifier's high-voltage transformer and power-supply circuitry.
6. Reconfigure the mains-voltage selection links
The internal link configuration has to be changed to the correct arrangement for the required supply voltage. ACOM provides different configurations for 100, 110, 120, 200, 210, 220, 230 and 240V operation.
7. Verify the mains fuse configuration
The mains fuse rating must also be checked and changed where required for the lower-voltage, higher-current mains configuration.
8. Reassemble and verify the amplifier
The cover must be correctly refitted before the converted amplifier can be powered and tested.

And there is another good reason to let us do it

Opening and modifying a new amplifier yourself will void its warranty. When this conversion is ordered with an amplifier from ML&S, the work is carried out by our workshop before despatch, so you receive the amplifier already configured for the required mains supply without having to open or modify it yourself.

High-voltage equipment

The outline above is provided to explain what is involved in the conversion, not as a DIY service procedure. ACOM specifically recommends entrusting the work to a dealer if you are not experienced and completely confident working on high-voltage amplifier equipment.
