The MyDEL 20m Vertical Moxon Wire Antenna offers a simple yet highly effective solution for HF operation on the 20m band. Unlike traditional horizontal Moxon antennas, this version is designed to be installed vertically, giving it a low take-off angle and strong directional performance - ideal for long-distance DX contacts.
Lightweight and easy to deploy, the antenna can be suspended between two fibreglass masts or hung from a suitable support such as a tree. With no heavy metalwork involved, it’s perfect for both portable use and semi-permanent installations.
Please note, this kit does not include poles or guying kit.
Key Features:
-
20m band vertical Moxon design - directional wire antenna with around 5dBi gain
-
Low radiation angle - excellent for DX contacts
-
Lightweight and portable - quick to set up and pack away
-
Simple installation - recommended with 2 x 9m fibreglass poles (not included)
-
Handles up to 1000W PEP
-
Compact footprint - approx. 8.3m vertical height and 2.8m horizontal spacing
What’s Included in the Kit:
-
1 x driven element wire with central SO239 socket
-
1 x reflector wire
-
4 x element corner supports
-
2 x two-piece spacer bars
-
10 x 200mm reusable cable ties
-
2 x 300mm reusable cable ties
-
2 x wire winders
Requirements:
This antenna kit is designed to be mounted on a support structure. 2 x 9m telescopic fibreglass masts are recommended together with base mounts appropriate for the intended installation location. Other arrangements may be used but metal components should be avoided as they may affect the antennas performance. We recommend the Rapide PLUS Ground Post from DX Commander (available here) with the DX Commander Signature 9 Poles (available here) and the Pro Guying Kit for support (available here).
This antenna is designed to be practical, effective, and fun to experiment with. Whether you’re setting up in the garden or operating portable in the field, the 20m Moxon gives you reliable performance in a compact and easy-to-use package.

-
Power Handling: Up to 1000W PEP
-
Recommended Supports: 2 x 9m telescopic fibreglass poles with suitable base mounts (not included)
Installation Notes:
-
The antenna is designed to be suspended vertically between two supports.
-
Non-metallic supports (fibreglass or similar) are recommended to avoid detuning or performance loss.
-
Components are pre-marked with coloured heatshrink (blue = upper section, white = lower section) to assist with correct assembly.
-
Wires are secured to the support structure with cable ties through the corner supports.
-
Driven element and reflector are connected using two-piece spacer bars.
Tuning and Adjustment:
-
Default wire lengths provide resonance close to the centre of the 20m band, with a wide operating bandwidth suitable for most modern transceivers.
-
The local environment (height, ground conditions, nearby objects) may slightly shift the resonant frequency.
-
Fine adjustments can be made by altering the driven element length using the fold-back at the spacer bars:
-
Shortening the element raises the resonant frequency.
-
Lengthening lowers the resonant frequency.
-
-
The reflector spacing and element lengths can be experimented with to optimise performance for your specific location.
Safety Guidance:
-
Always guy the masts for stability in portable or permanent use.
-
Establish a safe distance around the antenna during operation, especially when running higher power levels.
