DX Engineering Ferrite

DX Engineering Ferrites are partially magnetic metal and ceramic mixes available in a variety of forms, including toroid core, bead type and plastic-covered split-bead ferrite called snap-beads. They are used in a myriad of RF suppression applications to mitigate RFI (radio frequency interference) as well as to reduce pulse and other types of RF noise interference. Special ferrites are used for experimentation and electronic circuit building and for making transformers, RF chokes and antenna baluns.

The variations of magnetic and non-magnetic metals and non-metal ceramics used to make ferrites are called "Mixes" and each has different radio frequency properties or ranges. Therefore, different mix number ferrites are typically used for different applications within those ranges, determined by decades of experiments by engineers and applications by hams. Each Mix has been assigned a color code to help identify the ferrite, so numerical labeling is not used on the metal. Color coded ferrite can be identified long after the numbered package is discarded or has disintegrated with time.

How do they work? Simply use snap-on beads on a cable or wire. An even more effective choke takes a few to several turns of a wire or cable through and around a ferrite snap-on bead or toroid core. This mitigates RFI to, or from, the connected RF noise producing or noise affected electronic device. The results can be very surprising. Solving noise and RFI can be frustrating. Due to the nature of RF and noise interference suppression; the techniques of appropriate use of ferrites can take a bit of trial and error, but are often the best solution for a difficult problem.

Use DX Engineering Ferrite for an incredible range of electronic circuits, noise abatement and RF suppression projects.

The details of DX Engineering Ferrite mixes and types appear in each product description. Sizes and applications are discussed in "More Details" and in the literature available at the "Documentation" tab of each of these products.

DX Engineering Ferrite Combo Pack RFI Suppression Snap-On Ferrite Beads DXE-CSB31-COMBO

DX Engineering Ferrite Combo Pack RFI Suppression Snap-On Ferrite Beads DXE-CSB31-COMBO

Previously known as DXE-CSB-COMBO Packs DX Engineering RFI Suppression Snap-On Ferrite Beads, here are all three sizes of snap beads with their new part number, DXE-CSB31-COMBO. We've added the mix number to the pack so you can tell at a glance that these are the mix-31 snap beads. Included in the combo pack are four small 0.275 in. inside diameter (ID) beads, two medium 0.525 inch ID beads and two large 0.750 inch ID beads. They fit over many different sizes of cables and wires so you can have the right size bead for to the job. RFI Suppression Snap-On Ferrite Beads act as an RF choke when placed around a current-carrying conductor. They offer a convenient, inexpensive and effective means of RF shielding, parasitic suppression, and RF decoupling. With a sufficient number of these Snap-On Beads, pulse noise and RFI may be virtually eliminated from your radio or other electronic device. Their special ferrite mix is ideal at HF and VHF and effectively decouples or chokes unwanted RF and RF noise on automobile ignition systems, speaker wires, control cables, or other wires and cables suspected to be absorbing or radiating RF interference. DX Engineering RFI Suppression Beads simply snap on, so no cutting is needed to install. Winding smaller wires around snap-bead cores before closing them provides a greater degree of RF choking and noise suppression. DX Engineering Ferrite Combo Pack RFI Suppression Snap-On Ferrite Beads’ features include: * Reduced or eliminated ignition/injector noise in mobile applications * 3 S-units improvement not uncommon * Hear many more stations * 31-mix is optimal for HF and VHF * Mobile, home, or shack use--any RFI application Note: For additional product information, please read the files under the "Documentation" tab.
