A modern flagship with a remarkable heritage
The Yaesu FTDX101MP takes its name from the celebrated FT-101 series and carries the MP designation in honour of Yaesu founder Sako Hasegawa, JA1MP. Its engineering focuses on one of the most demanding aspects of HF operation: recovering a weak signal in the presence of considerably stronger adjacent signals.
Designed for demanding DX, contest and everyday amateur-radio operation, the FTDX101MP combines a 200W transmitter, two independent receiver paths, sophisticated RF filtering and a comprehensive operating interface. Unlike the 100W FTDX101D, the MP version includes an external mains power supply with integrated speaker, VC-Tune on both receivers and an additional factory-fitted narrow CW roofing filter.
Engineered for serious HF operation
RF Output
Up to 200W output on supported HF and 50MHz modes, providing additional transmit capability without requiring an external amplifier for that power level.
Independent Receivers
MAIN and SUB receiver architecture for simultaneous reception, split-frequency operation and monitoring different frequencies.
Factory-Fitted VC-Tune
Motor-driven RF preselectors are fitted to both receiver paths for improved rejection of troublesome signals outside the selected passband.
Colour Touchscreen
High-resolution display with spectrum scope, waterfall, 3DSS visualisation and configurable operating information.
The advantage of Hybrid SDR
The FTDX101MP brings together two complementary signal-processing techniques. A narrow-band SDR receiver is optimised for demanding signal reception, while a direct-sampling SDR system provides detailed, real-time visibility of band activity.
Narrow-Band SDR
High-performance down-conversion receiver circuitry uses crystal roofing filters, a low-noise front end and high-resolution digital signal processing. Strong signals outside the desired receive bandwidth can be attenuated before reaching the analogue-to-digital converter, helping preserve receiver performance under difficult conditions.
Direct-Sampling SDR
A complementary direct-sampling receiver supports the real-time spectrum display, giving the operator a clear view of nearby activity. Signals can be located visually and then selected for reception through the narrow-band receiver system.
This combination is particularly valuable during crowded contests, DX pile-ups and operation near powerful local transmitters, where both strong-signal handling and spectrum awareness matter.
Exceptional close-in signal handling
Yaesu designed the FTDX101 series around exceptional performance with closely spaced signals. Its 400MHz High Resolution Direct Digital Synthesizer (HRDDS), low-noise oscillator design and high-performance filtering contribute to the receiver's strong-signal characteristics.
Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range at 2kHz spacing.
Blocking Dynamic Range at 2kHz spacing.
Third-order Intermodulation Dynamic Range at 2kHz spacing.
Manufacturer-published performance figures under Yaesu's specified test conditions. Actual receiver performance depends on configuration, operating frequency and measurement conditions.
Dual VC-Tune. Greater control over interference.
The FTDX101MP includes Yaesu's motor-driven VC-Tune RF preselector on both the MAIN and SUB receivers. This differentiates it from the standard FTDX101D configuration, which has VC-Tune fitted to the MAIN receiver only.
VC-Tune employs a variable capacitor driven by a precision stepping motor. Its resonant frequency can be adjusted to help reject strong interfering signals while maintaining reception of the desired signal. Yaesu specifies a maximum attenuation capability of approximately 70dB under its measurement conditions.
The system is controlled using the front-panel VC-TUNE key and Multi-Purpose VFO Outer Dial. Tuning settings can be retained by band, reducing the need to repeat adjustments when returning to a familiar operating condition.
Crystal roofing filters for demanding reception
The FTDX101MP uses narrow crystal roofing filters as part of its receiver's front-end selectivity system. The MP model includes additional factory-installed CW filtering beyond the standard FTDX101D equipment.
| Roofing Filter | MAIN Receiver | SUB Receiver |
|---|---|---|
| 300Hz CW | Standard | Optional |
| 600Hz CW | Standard | Standard |
| 3.0kHz SSB | Standard | Standard |
| 1.2kHz | Optional | Optional |
See the band in remarkable detail
The 7-inch, 800 x 480 pixel colour touchscreen provides a detailed operating display while retaining extensive dedicated front-panel controls. Spectrum and waterfall information gives the operator an immediate view of signals across the selected span.
3DSS Spectrum Stream
Yaesu's three-dimensional spectrum visualisation offers an alternative way of observing signal strength and changes in band activity over time.
Real-Time Spectrum Scope
The direct-sampling SDR system provides a real-time view of nearby signals, supporting rapid identification of operating opportunities.
Dual-Receiver Displays
Configurable display arrangements support MAIN and SUB receiver operation, including dual-band spectrum monitoring.
Purpose-built front-panel controls
The FTDX101MP balances modern touchscreen operation with a traditional high-grade radio control layout. Important functions remain accessible directly from the front panel, allowing the operator to make rapid adjustments without navigating multiple menus.
MPVD Outer Dial
The aluminium Multi-Purpose VFO Outer Dial provides convenient adjustment of functions including SUB VFO tuning, VC-Tune, clarifier and user-selectable controls.
Active Band Indicator
Illuminated band-selection controls help identify MAIN and SUB receiver assignments and the transmitting VFO at a glance.
Dedicated Receiver Adjustments
Quick access to important receiver functions such as WIDTH, SHIFT and RF preselection supports precise tuning during changing band conditions.
Split and Dual Watch
Independent receiver controls make it practical to monitor different frequencies and manage split-frequency contacts during DX operation.
200W transmission with an emphasis on signal purity
The FTDX101MP is the high-power member of the FTDX101 family, delivering up to 200W RF output in supported operating modes. Its transmitter design places considerable emphasis on low phase noise and maintaining signal quality throughout the transmit chain.
Yaesu's 400MHz HRDDS oscillator architecture supports both receiver and transmitter performance. Transmit signal generation uses high-resolution digital circuitry, with careful attention paid to the clock distribution, conversion stages and power amplifier. This is intended to maintain a clean transmitted signal, particularly important on crowded amateur bands.
FPS-101 external supply and speaker included
The FTDX101MP is supplied with the dedicated Yaesu FPS-101 external mains power supply. This is part of the standard MP configuration and is not an additional purchase.
The FPS-101 incorporates a front-facing speaker, combining the power supply and external loudspeaker in a matching unit for the transceiver.
The FTDX101MP uses its supplied external AC power supply rather than the conventional owner-supplied 13.8V DC station supply used by the FTDX101D. Allow appropriate bench space and ventilation for both units.
Remote operation and station integration
The FTDX101 series supports computer-based remote control, allowing compatible software to manage operating functions and monitor receiver information. Remote operation over a LAN or internet connection requires the appropriate optional external LAN equipment and software configuration. This equipment is not included as standard with the FTDX101MP.
What's included?
Standard documentation and small accessories are provided according to the supplied UK package. Optional roofing filters and remote-control LAN equipment are not included unless specifically stated.

Installation and Operating Notes
Power: Connect the transceiver using the supplied FPS-101 power system. Do not substitute the conventional 13.8V station-power arrangement used with the FTDX101D.
Ventilation: Allow adequate clearance around the transceiver and power supply, particularly during sustained high-power transmission.
Antennas: Use a suitable 50-ohm antenna system rated for the intended operating frequency and power. Follow the manufacturer's matching and antenna-tuner guidance.
70MHz Operation: Availability of 70MHz transmission depends on the destination configuration and applicable amateur-radio authorisation. Consult the manufacturer and ML&S before assuming that modification or configuration changes are required or permitted.
