More than an ordinary dual-band handheld
The Yaesu FT5DE is a fully featured 144/430MHz handheld transceiver combining reliable 5W RF output with FM analogue and Yaesu System Fusion C4FM digital communication. Developed for operators who want a capable handheld without sacrificing usability, it offers a colour touchscreen, independent dual receivers, Bluetooth connectivity and powerful digital operating functions.
Its compact design measures approximately 62 x 100 x 34mm, while rubber corner protection and an IPX7 water-resistance rating help make it suitable for outdoor use. The high-resolution display and dedicated operating controls provide convenient access to essential settings.
Whether you're communicating through a local repeater, monitoring multiple frequencies, sharing your position over APRS or accessing a compatible WIRES-X digital node, the FT5DE provides an impressive range of possibilities in a handheld radio.

Monitor two frequencies with independent receivers
The FT5DE features independent A and B receivers, allowing simultaneous monitoring of two frequencies. You can receive VHF/VHF, UHF/UHF, VHF/UHF or UHF/VHF combinations, making it useful for monitoring repeaters, club channels and local simplex traffic.
Separate LED indicators show the reception and operating status of each band, helping you recognise whether signals are being received in analogue FM or C4FM digital mode.
The FT5DE can monitor both receivers for C4FM signals, but it does not decode two C4FM voice calls simultaneously. When digital transmissions arrive on both bands, priority is given to the active band.
Digital voice and analogue FM in one handheld
The FT5DE supports Yaesu C4FM digital communication and conventional FM analogue operation. Automatic Mode Select (AMS) recognises compatible incoming digital or analogue transmissions and selects the appropriate receive mode.
DG-ID and Group Monitor functions allow users to communicate with compatible digital groups, while Digital Personal ID (DP-ID) offers additional identification features within supported System Fusion operations.
These digital functions can simplify communication between club members, local repeaters and other compatible C4FM operators.
Wireless communication, straight out of the box
Unlike some mobile transceivers that require an optional Bluetooth module, the FT5DE includes Bluetooth hardware as standard. Pair a compatible wireless headset for hands-free listening and transmitting, without needing an additional module.

The Primary Memory Group (PMG) function provides quick access to frequently used frequencies. Hold the PMG key to register a channel, then use the graphical activity display to observe reception on the stored frequencies.
Touching an activity bar selects the corresponding frequency, allowing rapid switching between favourite repeaters, club channels and local operating frequencies.

Built-in GPS, APRS and Smart Navigation
The FT5DE incorporates a high-sensitivity 66-channel GPS receiver for compatible position-related functions. GPS information can be used with APRS to transmit position reports and receive data from other stations.
Its integrated 1200/9600bps APRS modem supports messaging, position reporting and other packet communication features using the B-band receiver.
Yaesu Smart Navigation provides direction and location information on the colour display, helping operators make use of compatible position data during portable operation.
Portable Digital Node capability
The FT5DE supports the WIRES-X Portable Digital Node function. With a compatible internet-connected Windows computer, the appropriate Yaesu software and the optional SCU-39 connection cable kit, the handheld can form part of a portable digital-node installation.
The required computer, internet connection and SCU-39 cable kit are not included with the standard radio package.
Rugged construction and dependable battery power
The FT5DE's protective rubber corners and IPX7 water-resistance rating make it a practical companion for outdoor operating. Its compact shape and flat-backed design offer a comfortable grip while using the controls.
The supplied SBR-14LI 2,200mAh lithium-ion battery provides portable power, with optional spare battery packs and charging accessories available for operators who require longer sessions away from mains electricity.
Yaesu's IPX7 specification applies with the antenna and side terminal cover correctly fitted. It is an immersion-resistance rating, not a guarantee against every form of water damage.
Programming and UK repeater settings
To use the appropriate regional repeater settings, make sure the FT5DE is configured for the UK. We have a simple illustrated guide showing where to make this change.

What's included?
Standard documentation and small accessories are supplied according to the UK package. The SSM-BT20 is an additional ML&S promotional accessory, available while stocks last. PC programming accessories are sold separately.

If you have any equipment that needs to be returned to Martin Lynch & Sons, please fill out the form below:
Upon receipt of goods you have 14 days to return goods however the goods must be returned in original packaging and care must have been taken with the goods you wish to return. Under distance selling regulations you are not entitled to any refund on carriage charges or modification charges made at your request. Large items cannot be returned if they have been assembled, unless faulty.
Warranty Terms and Conditions
Outside of the 14 faulty return period, returned items cannot be accepted, unless covered by manufacturer's warranty. We will repair as much as possible on site however in exceptional circumstances products may have to be returned to the manufacturer of distributor.
For repairs/replacements under manufacturer’s warranty for any item please download a ML&S return form from the link above and return to ML&S with the faulty product.
International Warranty information
Warranty service for items we sell is available in the U.K. only, unless otherwise noted. It is your responsibility to pay freight for returned items to the U.K. and back to you for desired warranty coverage. All of our NEW products come with a minimum 12 month warranty, (Yaesu & Icom 24 months), with up to 90 days on second-hand equipment. Items returned for service must state "returned goods for repair" on the return air waybill or U.K. import customs duties apply and will be added to your invoice.
