It boasts a full range of D-STAR functions, including Terminal Mode, Access Point Mode and DV Repeater Monitoring. APRS support is also planned via a firmware update.
The ID-5200 is also equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Wi-Fi connectivity allows internet access, making Terminal Mode and Access Point Mode operation even easier. It can also connect wirelessly to smartphones for supported applications and additional functions.
Complete dual-channel simultaneous reception, including DV/DV, enables efficient monitoring and operation across two frequencies or modes.
Large colour touchscreen with excellent visibility and intuitive control.
Terminal Mode, Access Point Mode, DV Repeater Monitor and image functions.
Internet, smartphone and compatible wireless accessory connectivity.
Simultaneous FM/FM, FM/DV and DV/DV reception.
Large Touch-Enabled Colour Display with Excellent Visibility
The ID-5200 features a large 4.3-inch colour display, the same size as the IC-705 and IC-7300MK2.
It supports touch operation, allowing quick adjustment of frequency, mode and other settings.
An automatic dimming function adjusts the LCD backlight to an appropriate brightness according to ambient light, while illuminated keys make operation easier at night or in darker environments.
For in-vehicle installation, the optional MBF-1 mounting base and MBA-20 controller bracket can be used.
Two Independent Dials for Superior Operability
The main dial, volume knob and squelch knob are positioned symmetrically, allowing smooth and intuitive operation of functions including tuning.
Frequently used menus, functions and quick-access controls are also assigned to physical keys for convenient operation.
Touch Assist Function for Mobile Operation
Pressing the main dial displays the Touch Assist screen.
Frequently used items such as band, mode and TS, tuning step, are displayed at a larger size, making selection and adjustment easier and more reliable.
See Band Activity Instantly with the Waterfall Display
The ID-5200 is equipped with a waterfall display that allows you to view the history of received signals in chronological order.
This provides more detailed information about signal locations, current band activity and available frequencies.
Centre Mode, FIX Mode and Scroll FIX Mode can be selected.
| Centre Mode | FIX Mode | Scroll FIX Mode |

| Displays received signals within a set range centred around the current receiving frequency. | Displays received signals within a set range centred around the frequency selected as the FIX Mode centre frequency. | The display scrolls as received signals move outside the selected display range. |
Memory Scope Function
The ID-5200 includes a memory scope function that simultaneously displays the reception status of channels before and after the selected channel.
It can display 15 channels before and after the selected channel, 31 channels in total, or 20 channels before and after, 41 channels in total, when using Memory Mode or the DR function.
In addition to the scope display, waterfall operation is also supported. The memory scope operates in fixed centre mode.
Enhanced D-STAR Functionality
The ID-5200 offers a comprehensive range of D-STAR functions, including Terminal Mode, Access Point Mode, DV Repeater Monitoring and standalone image transmission and reception.
Terminal Mode and Access Point Mode
Even in locations where you cannot access a D-STAR repeater directly, the ID-5200 can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi and operate using Terminal Mode or Access Point Mode.
This makes it possible to enjoy D-STAR communication regardless of the availability of a nearby repeater or your location, provided a suitable internet connection is available.
The ID-5200 can also operate in Terminal Mode or Access Point Mode in environments where a global IP address has not been assigned.
This provides easier and more flexible access to D-STAR through a range of internet connections.
Reception of every call cannot be guaranteed. If you have a global IP address assigned and are able to open the required ports, Icom recommends operating with UDP hole punching turned off.
DV Repeater Monitor
When making an Area CQ gateway call using D-STAR, the ID-5200's DV Repeater Monitor function allows you to monitor the status of the remote repeater through the internet.
By accessing the repeater transmitting the Area CQ call and monitoring its activity, you can determine when the current QSO is likely to finish.
The function supports repeaters both in Japan and overseas. While monitoring a remote repeater, reception from your nearest repeater remains prioritised so you do not miss calls to your own station.
Send and Receive Images Directly from the ID-5200
The ID-5200 itself can send, receive and display saved images.
Photographs taken with a smartphone can also be transferred to the ID-5200 via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Connectivity
The ID-5200 supports connectivity via both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Wi-Fi internet access allows more convenient use of Terminal Mode and Access Point Mode without requiring a separate wired network connection.
Wireless connection to compatible smartphones is also supported, making it convenient when using control software, image cropping software and other supported applications.
Bluetooth connectivity also allows compatible wireless accessories to be used with the radio. Combining the ID-5200 with optional Bluetooth bone-conduction headsets such as the S9 can provide an even more convenient operating setup.
APRS Support
APRS, the Automatic Packet Reporting System, is a communication protocol using packet radio to send and receive information including location data, messages and weather information in real time.
Native APRS support for the ID-5200 is planned to be added through a future firmware update.
KISS mode is already supported, allowing APRS operation from a connected PC and compatibility with suitable packet radio software.
Full native APRS functionality is planned for a future firmware update. KISS mode support is already available.
Complete Simultaneous Reception of Two Signals, Including DV/DV
The receiver section uses independent, identical receiving circuits for the main and sub channels.
This provides complete dual-band simultaneous reception, including:
- FM/FM
- FM/DV
- DV/DV
Audio from two frequencies or modes can be heard simultaneously. This allows operation such as monitoring two D-STAR repeaters or listening to another repeater while communicating.
