The AOR GT-1 Mk2 is a receive-only galvanic isolation transformer designed for use with the AOR AR-DV3 receiver.

Installed between the antenna and receiver, the GT-1 Mk2 helps reduce locally generated noise caused by ground loops. This can be especially useful in stations using computers, switching power supplies, SDR equipment, and other electrical devices that may introduce interference into the antenna system.

By providing galvanic isolation between the antenna line and the receiver, the GT-1 Mk2 can help reduce unwanted noise before it reaches the receiver’s antenna input. It also provides a useful level of protection against electrostatic discharge on the antenna line.

Key Features

  • Galvanic isolation transformer for receive-only use
  • Designed for the AOR AR-DV3 receiver
  • Helps reduce ground-loop-induced noise
  • Useful for PC-controlled and SDR receiver setups
  • Helps reduce interference from computers, switching power supplies, and electrical devices
  • Helps protect the receiver from electrostatic discharge on the antenna line
  • Wide frequency coverage from 100kHz to 400MHz
  • Suitable for longwave, medium wave, shortwave, airband, and wideband receive applications
  • BNC male and BNC female connections
  • 50 ohm impedance

Operating Principle

When a receiving station does not have a good RF ground, the antenna ground and receiver ground can sit at different electrical potentials. This can create a ground loop, allowing noise from connected equipment to travel from the antenna system into the receiver.

The GT-1 Mk2 interrupts this path using galvanic isolation, helping to reduce ground-loop-related noise before it reaches the receiver. Please note that it is designed to reduce this type of interference and will not remove every possible source of noise.

Installation

Connect the antenna cable to the BNC connector marked ANT, then connect the RX side directly to the receiver antenna input.

If required, a short 10-20cm (4-8in) BNC coaxial cable can be used between the receiver and the GT-1 Mk2. This cable is not supplied.

After installation, compare the received noise floor with and without the GT-1 Mk2 fitted to confirm the benefit in your specific station setup.
