The Heil BM-17 is a lightweight communications headset designed for amateur radio, portable operation, contesting, DXing, and general station use.
This newly redesigned version is supplied in black with Heil Ham Radio branding and features a swivel-mounted boom arm, allowing the microphone to be positioned on either the left or right side. The BM-17 is available in single-sided or dual-sided versions, with either a Dynamic element or Heil’s iC electret element to suit different radio setups.

The Dynamic and iC versions are not interchangeable.
A Dynamic headset should not be selected for an Icom radio requiring the iC element, and an iC headset should not be selected for Yaesu, Kenwood, or other radios requiring the Dynamic element.
Dynamic Element Version - For Yaesu, Kenwood and Other Compatible Radios
The BM-17 Dynamic version is intended for Yaesu, Kenwood, and other compatible radios that use a standard low-impedance dynamic microphone input.
This version uses Heil’s BM-D dynamic element, designed specifically for communications audio. It is the correct choice for most non-Icom amateur radio transceivers when used with the correct Heil AD-1 adapter cable.
The Dynamic version is not suitable for Icom radios that require the iC electret element.
iC Electret Element Version - For Icom Radios
The BM-17 iC version is intended for compatible Icom radios.
This version uses Heil’s iC electret element, which is designed to work with the bias voltage provided by suitable Icom transceivers. It helps address the low microphone gain issues that can occur when using standard dynamic microphone elements with some Icom radios.
The iC version requires +5V DC bias power from the radio and must be used with the correct iC-compatible Heil adapter cable, such as an AD-1-iC or AD-1-iCM where appropriate.
The iC version is not suitable for Yaesu, Kenwood, or other radios that require the Dynamic version.
Important Note
This listing is for the Heil BM-17 headset only.
A suitable Heil AD-1 series adapter cable is required for connection to most transceivers and is not included unless stated otherwise. A compatible PTT hand switch or foot switch may also be required depending on your setup.
Please check radio compatibility carefully before ordering.
- Choose the Dynamic Element version for Yaesu, Kenwood, and other compatible non-Icom radios.
- Choose the iC Element version for compatible Icom radios requiring the iC electret element.
- The two element types are not interchangeable.

Upon receipt of goods you have 14 days to return goods however the goods must be returned in original packaging and care must have been taken with the goods you wish to return. Under distance selling regulations you are not entitled to any refund on carriage charges or modification charges made at your request. Large items cannot be returned if they have been assembled, unless faulty.
Warranty Terms and Conditions
Outside of the 14 faulty return period, returned items cannot be accepted, unless covered by manufacturer's warranty. We will repair as much as possible on site however in exceptional circumstances products may have to be returned to the manufacturer of distributor.
For repairs/replacements under manufacturer’s warranty for any item please download a ML&S return form from the link above and return to ML&S with the faulty product.
International Warranty information
Warranty service for items we sell is available in the U.K. only, unless otherwise noted. It is your responsibility to pay freight for returned items to the U.K. and back to you for desired warranty coverage. All of our NEW products come with a minimum 12 month warranty, (Yaesu & Icom 24 months), with up to 90 days on second-hand equipment. Items returned for service must state "returned goods for repair" on the return air waybill or U.K. import customs duties apply and will be added to your invoice.
