M&P's premium flexible 10.3mm coax, combining outstanding low-loss performance with exceptional flexibility, full-copper construction and excellent RF screening.
Choose your cable length and connector combination and let us build the lead for you.
Far lower loss than RG213. Dramatically lower loss than RG-8X.
ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition is designed for operators who want premium low-loss performance across HF, VHF and UHF without sacrificing the flexibility of a stranded centre conductor.
Messi & Paoloni ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition /.400" is a premium 10.3mm 50 ohm coaxial cable designed for demanding amateur radio, contest and communications installations where feed-line performance really matters.
M&P describes ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition as an evolution of its ULTRAFLEX 10 design and specifically highlights its far better performance than conventional RG213. It combines very low attenuation with an 87% velocity factor, full-copper construction and screening efficiency greater than 105dB.
Compared with RG-8 Mini / RG-8X, the difference is even more substantial. RG-8X is convenient and compact, but its attenuation rises quickly as frequency and cable length increase. ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition retains far more of the signal travelling between your radio and antenna.
M&P specifically highlights ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition as offering substantially better RF performance than conventional RG213.
Dramatically lower attenuation than typical RG-8X, especially on VHF, UHF and longer cable runs.
High-pressure triple-layer physically foamed polyethylene dielectric provides excellent RF efficiency.
Stranded copper centre conductor and reactive braid make it practical for tight routing and rotator antennas.
M&P's Performance-Focused Flexible 10.3mm Coax
ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition is aimed at installations where attenuation matters just as much as flexibility.
At 20°C, M&P specifies attenuation of only 1.4dB per 100m at 14MHz, 2.6dB at 50MHz, 4.6dB at 144MHz, 8.5dB at 430MHz and 15.3dB at 1296MHz.
Those figures make it particularly attractive for long feed lines and higher-frequency operation, where every additional dB of cable loss has a greater effect on both transmitted and received signals.
See the Difference Against RG213 and RG-8X
ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition is almost the same overall diameter as conventional RG213, but the modern dielectric and screening construction deliver substantially lower attenuation.
RG213/U and RG-8X figures are representative values and may vary between manufacturers and individual cable constructions.
If you are considering RG213, ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition gives you substantially lower loss from almost the same overall cable diameter.
If you are upgrading from RG-8X, the difference is considerably greater, making ULTRAFLEX 10C especially worthwhile on longer runs and at VHF or UHF.
High Performance Without Sacrificing Flexibility
Low-loss 10mm-class coax does not have to mean an awkward, rigid feed line.
ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition uses a 7 x 1.0mm stranded copper centre conductor with an overall diameter of approximately 2.9mm. M&P specifically highlights its exceptional flexibility for tight bends and antennas using rotators.
The recommended minimum bend radius is 80mm for repeated bending and only 40mm for a single bend or choke.
This makes it a strong choice for beam antennas, rotator loops and installations where a conventional low-loss cable might otherwise be difficult to route.
Reactive Copper Braid
The outer conductor uses a 144-wire copper reactive braid with approximately 71% coverage.
M&P manufactures this braid using a 24-spool machine rather than a conventional 16-spool process. The additional crossover points help the braid react to bending and twisting in a spring-like manner while maintaining excellent RF screening.
Beneath the braid is a 100% copper foil first screen with an applied polyethylene layer which helps prevent cracking during short-radius bends.
Greater Than 105dB Screening
M&P specifies screening efficiency greater than 105dB between 100MHz and 2000MHz.
The complete screening system is made from copper and is designed to provide excellent isolation from unwanted electromagnetic interference while also reducing unwanted RF radiation from the feed line.
The low-loss construction also provides substantial power-handling capability. At an ambient cable temperature of 40°C, M&P specifies continuous handling of approximately 3428W at 14MHz, 1849W at 50MHz, 1049W at 144MHz and 587W at 430MHz.
Maximum peak power is specified at 12,000W. Continuous ratings vary with operating frequency and temperature and should be used when planning demanding high-power installations.
Where ULTRAFLEX 10C Competition Works Best
An excellent all-round feed line where minimising RF loss is more important than simply choosing the cheapest cable.
Very low attenuation helps preserve both transmitted power and received signal over substantial cable runs.
Particularly attractive as operating frequency increases and the shortcomings of conventional coax become more significant.
Stranded construction and reactive braid provide the flexibility needed for beam antennas and rotator loops.
Low loss, excellent screening and substantial power handling suit demanding high-duty operating environments.
A straightforward performance upgrade where reducing feed-line attenuation is a priority.
