All the low-loss performance and exceptional flexibility of ULTRAFLEX 7 with a UV-resistant white jacket designed to reduce solar heating in hot and exposed installations.
Choose your cable length and connector combination and let us build the lead for you.
Smaller than RG213. Lower loss than RG213. Far lower loss than RG-8X.
ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara delivers the same outstanding RF performance as standard ULTRAFLEX 7, but with a white outer jacket developed for installations exposed to strong sunlight.
Messi & Paoloni ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara is the white-jacket version of M&P's hugely popular ULTRAFLEX 7 low-loss coaxial cable.
Despite measuring only 7.3mm in diameter, M&P states that ULTRAFLEX 7 outclasses conventional RG213/U and RG8. It provides the practicality, flexibility and manageable size of a smaller cable with RF performance normally associated with much larger 10mm-class coax.
Compared with RG-8 Mini / RG-8X, the difference is even greater. ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara has considerably lower attenuation, particularly as frequency and cable length increase, making it a major upgrade for longer HF runs and especially for VHF and UHF installations.
M&P explicitly rates ULTRAFLEX 7 above conventional RG213/U and RG8 despite its much smaller 7.3mm diameter.
Considerably lower attenuation than typical RG-8X, especially on longer VHF and UHF feed lines.
White PVC helps reduce solar heating compared with black cable when installed in strong direct sunlight.
19-strand copper centre conductor and reactive braid make it ideal for tight bends and rotator antennas.
Why a White Coaxial Cable?
The white Sahara jacket is more than an appearance change. M&P developed the Sahara range specifically for installations where coax is exposed to strong sunlight and high temperatures.
Coaxial cable attenuation increases as cable temperature rises. A black cable sitting in direct sunlight can become considerably hotter than the surrounding air, even while the operator and equipment remain in the shade.
By using a white UV-resistant PVC jacket, ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara reflects more solar energy and can remain cooler than an equivalent black cable. This helps limit the temperature-related increase in attenuation and preserve more of the cable's RF performance in hot, sunny installations.
The white jacket is also an attractive option where the feed line runs along white walls, fascia boards, conservatories or other light-coloured surfaces and a black cable would be visually intrusive.
See the Difference Against RG213 and RG-8X
ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara uses the same low-loss RF construction as standard ULTRAFLEX 7. Lower dB figures mean less signal is lost between your radio and antenna.
RG213/U and RG-8X figures are representative values and can vary between manufacturers and individual cable constructions.
If you are considering RG213 because you want low loss, ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara gives you even better RF performance without having to install a bulky 10mm cable.
If you are considering RG-8X because you want something compact and flexible, ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara gives you similarly convenient handling with dramatically better RF performance.
Designed for Tight Bends and Rotator Antennas
ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara uses a 19-wire stranded copper centre conductor, giving it excellent flexibility compared with cables using a solid or less finely stranded conductor.
The cable is designed for tight routing and rotator-operated antennas, with a minimum recommended bend radius of approximately 68mm for repeated bending and only 34mm for a single bend or choke.
M&P Reactive Copper Braid
Screening is provided by a 144-wire copper reactive braid with approximately 83% coverage, manufactured using a 24-spool braiding process rather than a conventional 16-spool machine.
The additional crossover points allow the braid to react to twisting and bending in a spring-like manner while maintaining excellent screening.
Beneath the braid is a 100% copper foil first screen with an applied polyethylene layer designed to prevent cracking during short-radius bends.
A++ Screening
The combination of full copper foil and reactive copper braid gives ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara a specified screening efficiency greater than 105dB between 100MHz and 2000MHz, qualifying for M&P's A++ screening classification.
The ULTRAFLEX 7 design was selected as the official coaxial cable for the World Radiosport Team Championship in both 2018 and 2022, where reliable RF performance, flexibility and practical field deployment are all important.
Where ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara Works Best
White jacket helps minimise solar heating where a feed line is exposed to strong direct sunlight.
Ideal when you want RG213-class or better performance without its larger diameter, additional weight and reduced flexibility.
A substantial performance upgrade for RG-8X installations, particularly on VHF, UHF and longer cable runs.
Exceptional flexibility makes the cable particularly suitable for beams and rotator loops.
M&P Cable Length Guidance
M&P provides the following transmitting guidance for ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara. These are recommendations for choosing an appropriate cable size rather than absolute cable limits.
Cable Construction
- 19 x 0.38mm stranded copper inner conductor
- 1.9mm overall inner conductor diameter
- Triple-layer physically foamed polyethylene dielectric
- 100% copper foil first screen with applied PE layer
- 83% coverage reactive copper braid
- 144 copper braid wires manufactured using 24 spools
- UV-resistant white PVC outer jacket
- 7.3mm overall cable diameter
- 83% velocity factor
- A++ screening efficiency greater than 105dB from 100 to 2000MHz
ULTRAFLEX 7 Sahara uses a flexible white PVC outer jacket and is not suitable for direct burial. For underground installations, use an M&P cable specifically designed for direct burial.
