Maximum Performance Without the Weight

Lower loss than RG213. Far lower loss than RG-8X. Around 45% lighter than a typical 10.3mm coax.

AIRBORNE 10 combines exceptionally low attenuation with a rugged waterproof polyethylene jacket and remarkably low weight, making it ideal for permanent outdoor feeds, long runs and installations where cable weight matters.

Messi & Paoloni AIRBORNE 10 /.400" is a high-performance 10.3mm coaxial cable developed around three priorities: very low attenuation, exceptionally low weight and serious outdoor durability.

M&P describes AIRBORNE 10 as delivering the best attenuation it has tested in a 10.3mm coaxial cable. At the same time, the cable weighs only 7.1kg per 100 metres, approximately 45% less than an average 10.3mm cable.

Its UV-resistant polyethylene outer jacket is designed for direct burial and outdoor use, making AIRBORNE 10 an excellent choice where the feed line needs to run underground, across exposed areas or over a significant distance.

PERFORMANCE
Exceptional Low Loss

M&P describes AIRBORNE 10 as having the best attenuation it has tested in a 10.3mm coax.

INSTALLATION
Direct Burial

Tough UV-resistant polyethylene jacket is waterproof and designed for permanent underground and outdoor installation.

WEIGHT
Only 7.1kg per 100m

Around 45% lighter than a typical 10.3mm coax, reducing cable load and making long runs considerably easier to handle.

VELOCITY FACTOR
87%

Triple-layer physically foamed polyethylene dielectric provides excellent RF efficiency from HF well into the microwave spectrum.

Ultra-Low Loss

Outstanding 10.3mm Coax Performance

AIRBORNE 10 delivers exceptionally low attenuation despite its lightweight construction.

At 20°C, M&P specifies loss of only 1.3dB per 100m at 14MHz, 2.4dB at 50MHz, 4.2dB at 144MHz, 7.6dB at 430MHz, 13.6dB at 1296MHz and just 19.2dB at 2400MHz.

That makes AIRBORNE 10 particularly attractive for longer feed lines and higher-frequency operation, where every additional dB lost in the coax directly reduces both transmitted and received signal levels.

Cable Comparison

See the Difference Against RG213 and RG-8X

AIRBORNE 10 offers considerably lower attenuation than traditional RG213/U despite being the same general cable diameter, while the improvement over RG-8X is even greater.

Frequency AIRBORNE 10 Typical RG213/U Typical RG-8X
50MHz 2.4dB / 100m Approx. 4.6dB / 100m Approx. 6.6dB / 100m
100MHz 3.5dB / 100m Approx. 6.6dB / 100m Approx. 9.8dB / 100m
400MHz 7.2dB / 100m Approx. 14.1dB / 100m Approx. 19.7dB / 100m

RG213/U and RG-8X figures are representative values and may vary between individual manufacturers and cable constructions.

Outdoor Installation

Waterproof and Designed for Direct Burial

Unlike ordinary PVC-jacket coax, AIRBORNE 10 uses a UV-shielded polyethylene outer jacket specifically designed for outdoor use and direct burial.

M&P describes the cable as completely waterproof and highlights the excellent tear resistance of the PE sheath. This makes it particularly useful for permanent antenna installations where the feed line needs to cross a garden, run underground or remain exposed to the weather.

No Separate Conduit Required for Cable Protection

AIRBORNE 10 is specifically manufactured as a waterproof direct-burial coax. Normal good installation practice should still be followed, particularly around connectors, entry points and areas where the cable could suffer mechanical damage.

Lightweight Construction

Remarkably Light for a 10.3mm Coax

One of AIRBORNE 10's biggest practical advantages is its weight.

At only 7.1kg per 100 metres, M&P states that it is approximately 45% lighter than the average 10.3mm cable.

That makes a noticeable difference when installing long runs, carrying cable for portable or DX operation, shipping large quantities or supporting a vertical feed line on a mast or tower.

Cable Construction

Lightweight Copper-Clad Aluminium Construction

The centre conductor is a 2.78mm copper-clad aluminium conductor. This construction substantially reduces cable weight while still providing the RF performance required by the design.

The first screen is a 100% copper foil with an applied polyethylene layer designed to prevent cracking during short-radius bends.

Over this sits M&P's heavy-duty 192-wire copper-clad aluminium reactive braid with approximately 85% coverage.

Reactive Screening

192-Wire Reactive Braid

The reactive braid is manufactured on a 24-spool machine rather than the more conventional 16-spool process.

This creates approximately 50% more crossover points, allowing the braid to react to bending and twisting in a spring-like manner while maintaining excellent screening performance.

M&P also highlights the exceptionally thick 192-wire braid as helping to reduce background noise in demanding RF installations.

RF Isolation

A++ Screening Performance

AIRBORNE 10 provides screening efficiency greater than 105dB between 100MHz and 2000MHz, giving it M&P's A++ screening classification.

The combination of full copper foil and the dense reactive braid helps minimise both unwanted signal ingress and RF radiation from the feed line.

High-Power Operation

Excellent Power Handling

Despite its remarkably low weight, AIRBORNE 10 is capable of serious transmit power.

At a cable temperature of 40°C, M&P specifies continuous power handling of approximately 5180W at 14MHz, 2939W at 50MHz, 1710W at 144MHz and 944W at 430MHz.

Maximum Peak Power
14,500W Maximum Peak Power

M&P specifies a maximum peak-power rating of 14.5kW. Continuous power handling varies with frequency and cable temperature, so the detailed ratings should be followed for demanding high-power installations.

Applications

Where AIRBORNE 10 Works Best

UNDERGROUND
Direct-Burial Feed Lines

Waterproof PE jacket makes it ideal for permanent underground runs between the shack and antenna.

LONG RUNS
Long Cable Runs

Exceptionally low attenuation helps preserve transmitted power and weak received signals over substantial distances.

VHF / UHF
VHF and UHF

Excellent attenuation figures make AIRBORNE 10 particularly effective as operating frequency increases.

2.4GHz
QO-100 and 2.4GHz

Only 19.2dB/100m attenuation at 2400MHz makes it an excellent choice for short low-loss QO-100 transmit feed lines.

PORTABLE
Portable and DX Stations

Extremely low weight makes transporting substantial lengths much easier than conventional 10.3mm coax.

POWER
High-Power Stations

Strong continuous-carrier ratings and a 14.5kW peak specification suit demanding amplifier installations.
