Technical Description MA-8300

The MA-8300 works on shortwave according to the principle of a shortened lambda quarter radiator, on 6m as L/4 radiator full length. The antenna body is formed by a coil, the outer sheath can be moved vertically and has the coil tapped at different points. This makes it very easy to set different coil values depending on the frequency. A precise scale on the coil body helps with the adjustment. In addition, the length of the upper radiator is changed for accurate tuning.

The connector is a solid PL connector at the base, for operation the antenna is placed on an appropriate holder. Like any vertical antenna, the MA-8300 needs a good counterweight. Maximum transmit power 130 watts SSB (PEP).

The components of the antenna are equipped with M10 thread, so other radiators with the same thread can also be used. Transport length 29 cm, fully extended length 280 cm ( coil + additional coil for the 80 m band + telescope).

Application Description MA-8300

The MA-8300 is an excellent antenna for hiking or a vacation with small luggage thanks to small transport dimensions and small weight. It covers the most important shortwave bands: from the popular 80m band all shortwave bands up to and including 6m. Everything is included for shortwave and the "magic band" 6m. Another advantage: A tuner is not necessarily needed, but can make tuning easier.

In case of a frequency change, retuning is done in seconds by moving the coil tap. Fine tuning is done with the radiator on top. There is also no need to change coils when changing bands. Typically, an SWR of 1:1.5 can be achieved, depending on the setup location and counterweight. For operation a base is needed, for example a magnetic base for the car, or a clamp for the tailgate of the car. Please note that the MA-8300 is not intended for use while driving. Stationary it can be set up well with a magnetic base on a balcony railing, which also serves as a counterweight. If no metallic counterweight is available, a wire of approx. 10m length should be used as a counterweight.
  • Short wave: 80 - 10 m + 6 m
  • Max. 130W SSB (PEP)
  • MA-8300 Adjustable Antenna Base Coil
  • 80m Extension Coil
  • Telescopic radiator
