Call 0345 2300 599The DX Commander 40m 4-Square Kit contains the main antenna hardware required to build a four-element 40m 4-square vertical array.
The kit includes four 10m DX Commander telescopic poles, ground and radiating plates, guy plates, SO-239 feed assemblies, and HCL clamps. It provides the mechanical foundation for building a directional 40m 4-square system while allowing you to choose your own wire, radial system, phasing lines, and switching arrangement.
Please note: this is an antenna hardware kit only. Phasing lines and the 4-square switchbox are not included.
What's in the Box
- 4 x 10m DX Commander telescopic poles
- 4 x Ground Plates
- 4 x Radiating Plates
- 4 x Retail Guy Plates
- 4 x DX Commander SO-239 assemblies
- 28 x HCL clamps for use as a stay-up kit
Additional Parts Required
To complete the antenna system you will also require:
- Antenna element wire
- Radial wire
- Guy lines
- Suitable 6mm nuts, bolts, and washers
- Phasing lines
- 4-square switching / phasing unit
The phasing lines and switchbox can either be home-built or sourced separately from a suitable 4-square system manufacturer.
Radial Recommendations
For effective results, DX Commander suggest either:
- 16 x quarter-wave radials, or
- 30 x eighth-wave radials
per antenna installation as appropriate to the chosen layout.
Tuning
For initial tuning, use an element wire slightly longer than required, approximately 11m, and fold the excess back down the pole after reaching the top.
Tune each of the four verticals individually for the required resonance and approximately 1:1 SWR before connecting the completed array to the 4-square switching system.
The element wire can be wound gently around the pole in a loose helix and secured periodically with suitable tape to help prevent the wire from flapping in the wind.
Important Note
This listing is for the DX Commander 40m 4-Square antenna hardware kit only.
The following are not included:
- Phasing lines
- 4-square switchbox
- Antenna wire
- Radial wire
- Guy lines
- General 6mm hardware
- Coaxial feeder
For the lightly loaded upper pole sections, tape and a cable tie may be used instead of HCL clamps. For permanent installations, a small amount of gel-based super glue may also be used, although this should be considered effectively permanent.
