THE COMPLETE SHACK-IN-A-BOX

One radio. An incredible range of possibilities.

The Yaesu FT-991A has earned its reputation as one of the most versatile transceivers in the amateur-radio market. Combining HF, 50MHz, 144MHz and 430MHz operation with SSB, CW, AM, FM and Yaesu System Fusion C4FM digital voice, it offers an extensive range of capabilities in a single compact unit.

With 100W output on HF and 50MHz, 50W on VHF/UHF, sophisticated 32-bit DSP filtering, a 3.5-inch colour touchscreen and a built-in automatic antenna tuner, it remains an attractive choice for anyone wanting one radio for a wide variety of operating interests.

From HF DX and CW to local repeaters, C4FM digital communication and computer-based digital modes such as FT8, the FT-991A provides a particularly flexible foundation for a home, transportable or portable station. With the final UK stock now available, it also represents a last opportunity to purchase this long-established model brand new.

ANTENNA CONNECTION INFORMATION

Separate HF/6m and VHF/UHF antenna sockets

The FT-991A features two separate rear antenna connections, allowing suitable antenna systems to be connected for different bands.

3.5-inch

Colour Touchscreen

TFT display with touch controls, real-time spectrum scope and waterfall.

100

ATU Memories

Automatic HF/50MHz antenna matching with memory recall.

REAL-TIME SPECTRUM DISPLAY

See the signals around you

The FT-991A introduced a high-speed, real-time spectrum scope that allows operators to monitor activity around their selected frequency while continuing to listen to received audio. This was one of the most significant enhancements over the original FT-991.

Multi-Colour Waterfall

Observe changing signals over time, helping identify weaker stations and locate activity across the band.

Automatic Scope Control

ASC provides an intuitive way to observe the spectrum and recognise signals near the operating frequency.

ADVANCED RECEIVER ENGINEERING

A capable receiver with sophisticated DSP

The FT-991A features a high-performance superheterodyne receiver supported by 32-bit floating-point digital signal processing. Its 3kHz roofing filter and adjustable DSP functions help reduce interference and improve reception of wanted signals.

32-Bit DSP

High-speed processing for flexible filtering and clearer received audio.

3kHz Roofing Filter

Helps attenuate strong nearby signals early in the receiver chain.

SHIFT and WIDTH

Adjust the receive passband to reduce adjacent interference.

Noise Reduction

Digital noise reduction, notch filtering and noise blanking for difficult band conditions.

YAESU SYSTEM FUSION

C4FM digital voice and analogue FM

The FT-991A supports C4FM System Fusion digital voice alongside conventional analogue FM operation. This provides compatibility with suitable Yaesu digital stations and repeaters while retaining conventional FM capabilities.

Automatic Mode Select (AMS) can detect compatible FM or C4FM transmissions and select the corresponding receiving mode, making mixed analogue and digital operation more convenient.

DIGITAL MODES AND COMPUTER CONTROL

Ready for FT8, RTTY and more

Integrated USB CAT control and audio connectivity allow the FT-991A to work with compatible amateur-radio software. With the correct driver and configuration, it can operate digital modes including FT8, FT4, RTTY and PSK31 without the need for a separate external sound-card interface.

The rear RTTY/DATA connection provides additional options for specialised interfaces, while USB also supports compatible transceiver firmware updates and computer control.

BUILT-IN ANTENNA TUNING

Automatic matching with 100 memories

The FT-991A includes a high-speed automatic antenna tuner for supported HF and 50MHz operation. Its 100 memory channels recall previous matching settings to help reduce tuning time when returning to familiar frequencies.

The radio also supports compatible external matching solutions, including the Yaesu FC-40 antenna tuner, for suitable installations.

Important

The built-in tuner is intended for HF and 50MHz operation only. It does not provide antenna matching on 144MHz or 430MHz.

COMPACT ALL-BAND DESIGN

Built for the shack and beyond

Despite its extensive operating capabilities, the FT-991A measures approximately 229 x 80 x 253mm and weighs around 4.3kg. Its manageable dimensions make it suitable for permanent stations and transportable installations.

A substantial heatsink and temperature-controlled cooling system help maintain operating stability, while the adjustable front-panel stand offers a more comfortable viewing angle.

Power supply required

A regulated 13.8V DC power supply is required and is not included. Yaesu specifies approximately 23A current draw when transmitting at 100W on HF. Select a supply with adequate continuous-current capacity.

UK Destination Configuration

Regional frequency settings and amateur-band availability may depend on the radio's destination configuration. Consult the information sheet before making any changes.
