A compact 868MHz handheld mesh terminal with a full physical QWERTY keyboard, colour display, GNSS positioning and built-in battery, available pre-configured for either Meshtastic or MeshCore.
The ThinkNode M9 is designed for people who want proper off-grid text communication without having to use a smartphone as the main user interface.
Its phone-sized body combines a 2.4-inch colour display, 37-key physical keyboard, LR1110 LoRa radio, multi-system GNSS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 2300mAh rechargeable battery into one self-contained handheld terminal.
Type and Read Messages Directly on the M9
Unlike simple LoRa nodes that depend on a Bluetooth-connected phone for normal interaction, the ThinkNode M9 has its own display, navigation controls and complete physical keyboard.
That makes it particularly useful for hiking, vehicle coordination, events, emergency preparedness and other situations where you want a dedicated mesh communicator rather than another peripheral hanging off your phone.
Meshtastic or MeshCore
For Meshtastic Networks
Supplied with Meshtastic firmware for standalone messaging, node information, mapping and GNSS location sharing.
The M9 can also pair with the official Meshtastic mobile app over Bluetooth when more advanced configuration or management is required.
For MeshCore Networks
Supplied with MeshCore firmware for public and private channels, direct messaging, contacts, location information and map functions.
In its normal configuration the M9 operates as a standalone MeshCore client and can communicate across multihop networks through compatible MeshCore repeaters.
Meshtastic and MeshCore are different mesh-network ecosystems. Choose the version that matches the network you intend to use. ML&S supplies the M9 pre-configured for the selected firmware.
Built for Messaging
The M9 uses a dedicated 37-key QWERTY keyboard alongside navigation and shortcut controls, giving it a familiar handheld-messenger feel rather than forcing text entry through a tiny touchscreen.
A separate ESP32-S2 controller handles the keyboard while the ESP32-S3 runs the main terminal, helping provide a responsive local interface.
2.4-Inch 240 × 320 LCD
The non-touch colour TFT display provides a clear interface for messages, network information, contacts, maps, positioning and configuration. Navigation is handled through the M9's physical controls and keyboard.
A Capable Platform Behind the Interface
The main ESP32-S3R8 processor provides dual-core processing at up to 240MHz, while a Semtech LR1110 handles long-range LoRa communication.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also built in, while microSD storage support gives the terminal room for mapping and other local data.
GNSS, Compass & Motion Sensing
Built-in GNSS supports GPS, BeiDou, Galileo and GLONASS, allowing position information to be used and shared by the installed mesh software.
The hardware also includes a magnetic sensor for directional information and a motion sensor, providing additional capabilities for positioning and future firmware features.
2300mAh Li-Polymer
The rechargeable 3.8V battery keeps the M9 completely self-contained for field use. Elecrow quotes approximately two to three days of standby operation as a reference figure.
Charging, Data & Firmware
A USB Type-C connection is provided for battery charging, data communication and firmware programming.
Only 126 × 67 × 10.3 mm
Despite combining a complete keyboard, display, battery, LoRa radio and positioning hardware, the ThinkNode M9 measures approximately 126 × 67 × 10.3 mm and weighs around 123 g.
Made for Communication Away from Conventional Networks
This ML&S listing is for the 868MHz hardware version. Elecrow manufactures separate 868MHz and 915MHz M9 variants, so the operating band is determined by the hardware version rather than simply changing a software region setting.
Supplied with the ThinkNode M9
Choose the Guide for Your Version
Elecrow provides separate setup and operating documentation for the Meshtastic and MeshCore versions of the ThinkNode M9.
