Get better RF performance than conventional RG213/U and dramatically lower loss than RG-8X from a flexible cable only 7.3mm in diameter.
Choose your cable length and connector combination and let us build the lead for you.
ULTRAFLEX 7 gives you the handling advantages of a 7.3mm cable with RF performance normally associated with much larger coax.
Messi & Paoloni ULTRAFLEX 7 /.287" is one of the standout cables in the M&P range because it combines genuinely low attenuation with a compact, extremely flexible construction.
M&P specifically states that ULTRAFLEX 7 outclasses conventional RG213/U and RG8 despite measuring only 7.3mm in diameter. In other words, you can achieve better performance than traditional 10mm-class RG213 while using a cable that is smaller, lighter and considerably easier to route.
Compared with RG-8 Mini / RG-8X, the difference is even greater. RG-8X is popular because it is relatively compact and flexible, but its higher attenuation becomes increasingly costly as cable length and frequency rise. ULTRAFLEX 7 retains much more of your transmitted power and received signal, particularly on 6m, 2m and 70cm.
M&P explicitly rates ULTRAFLEX 7 above conventional RG213/U and RG8 for RF performance.
Considerably lower attenuation than typical RG-8X, especially as you move into VHF and UHF.
Achieves 10mm-class performance without the bulk and stiffness of conventional RG213.
Stranded copper centre conductor and reactive braid make it ideal for tight bends and rotator antennas.
See the Difference Against RG213 and RG-8X
The benefit becomes much clearer when the loss figures are placed side by side. Lower dB figures mean less signal is lost in the feed line.
| Frequency | ULTRAFLEX 7 | Typical RG213/U | Typical RG-8X |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50MHz | 4.0dB / 100m | Approx. 4.3dB / 100m | Approx. 6.6dB / 100m |
| 100MHz | 5.8dB / 100m | Approx. 6.2dB / 100m | Approx. 9.8dB / 100m |
| 400MHz | 11.8dB / 100m | Approx. 13.5dB / 100m | Approx. 19.7dB / 100m |
RG213/U and RG-8X figures are representative values and can vary between manufacturers and individual cable constructions.
If you are currently considering RG213 because you want lower loss, ULTRAFLEX 7 gives you even better RF performance without having to install a bulky 10mm cable.
If you are considering RG-8X because you want something smaller and flexible, ULTRAFLEX 7 gives you the same kind of easy handling but with dramatically better RF performance.
Designed for Tight Bends and Rotator Antennas
Performance is only part of what makes ULTRAFLEX 7 useful. Its flexibility is one of the main reasons operators choose it over traditional RG213.
The inner conductor is made from 19 individual copper wires rather than a single solid conductor. This reduces stiffness and allows the cable to move naturally when installed around antenna rotators or routed through confined spaces.
The minimum recommended bend radius is approximately 68mm for repeated bending and only 34mm for a single bend or choke.
M&P Reactive Braid
ULTRAFLEX 7 uses a 144-wire copper braid with approximately 83% coverage, manufactured using a 24-spool braiding process.
Compared with a conventional 16-spool braid, this creates approximately 50% more braid crossover points. M&P describes the resulting construction as a reactive braid that responds to twisting and bending in a spring-like manner.
Beneath the braid is a 100% copper foil screen with an applied polyethylene layer designed to resist cracking when the cable is bent to a short radius.
Excellent Screening
The combination of copper foil and high-coverage braid gives ULTRAFLEX 7 a specified screening efficiency of greater than 105dB between 100MHz and 2000MHz.
This helps reduce unwanted RF ingress and radiation from the feed line, making it suitable for demanding amateur radio installations as well as laboratory, communications and data applications.
Selected for WRTC
ULTRAFLEX 7 was selected as the official coaxial cable for the World Radiosport Team Championship in both 2018 and 2022, where reliable RF performance, field deployment and practical cable handling are all critical.
Where ULTRAFLEX 7 Works Best
Ideal when you want RG213-class or better performance without its 10mm diameter, additional weight and reduced flexibility.
A major performance upgrade for existing RG-8X installations, particularly on VHF, UHF and longer cable runs.
Exceptional flexibility makes it particularly suitable for beam antennas and rotator loops.
Compact size, strong RF performance and easy handling make it excellent for portable stations and temporary installations.
