Continuously Adjustable Loading

Chameleon CHA MCC 2.0 Multi-Configuration Coil

Adjustable loading coil for building documented resonant portable vertical antenna configurations using compatible Chameleon MPAS READY components.

The Chameleon CHA MCC 2.0 is a continuously adjustable loading coil used as part of documented Chameleon resonant portable vertical antenna systems.

By moving the tuning tube over the coil, the effective inductive loading of the completed antenna can be adjusted until the required resonant point is reached. This allows compatible systems to change bands without cutting or permanently altering the radiator.

Depending on the chosen radiator and complete configuration, the MCC 2.0 can be used in documented base-loaded and centre-loaded arrangements with the CHA SS58, CHA MIL 2.0 and CHA SS17.

ADJUSTABLE
Continuous Tuning

Move the tuning tube to change the effective inductive loading and fine-tune the completed antenna to resonance.

CONFIGURABLE
Base or Centre Loaded

Supported configurations place the MCC 2.0 either at the base or higher within the radiator system.

MODULAR
3/8-24 Interfaces

Standard 3/8-24 mechanical connections are provided at the top and bottom of the coil.

MPAS READY
Multiple Radiator Options

Documented systems include configurations using the CHA SS58, CHA MIL 2.0 and CHA SS17.

How It Works

Tune the Complete Antenna to Resonance

The MCC 2.0 uses a movable tuning tube over the loading coil. Changing its position changes the inductance presented within the complete antenna system.

Begin with the published starting position for the exact radiator and configuration being used, then check the antenna with an analyser or SWR meter and make small adjustments until the required resonant frequency is reached.

Once tuned, the lock knob secures the tuning tube in position.

Documented Configurations

Different Radiators, Different Operating Ranges

There is no single universal MCC 2.0 setting or frequency range. The usable bands depend on the radiator, coil position, extensions, feed arrangement and radial or counterpoise system used around it.

CHA SS58

Documented base-loaded and centre-loaded configurations cover amateur bands from 40m through 10m, with a separate 6m configuration.

CHA MIL 2.0

Documented base-loaded and centre-loaded arrangements provide operation on selected bands from 60m through 17m.

CHA SS17

The documented base-loaded configuration covers lower bands down to approximately 75m, while higher bands can use the adjustable whip length.

Important
The MCC 2.0 Is a Component, Not a Complete Antenna

A complete installation requires the documented radiator, feedpoint or base, mounting arrangement, coax connection, radial or counterpoise system and suitable SWR measuring equipment.

The MCC 2.0 is not an automatic tuner or universal loading coil. A shared 3/8-24 thread does not by itself establish electrical, mechanical or power compatibility with another component.

Field Adjustment

Start With the Published Setting, Then Fine-Tune

Coil settings should be treated as starting points for the documented antenna configuration. Final resonance is affected by the complete installation, including radiator dimensions, radial layout, mounting position, ground conditions and nearby objects.

1. Configure Assemble the exact documented radiator and loading arrangement.
2. Set Move the tuning tube to the published initial position.
3. Measure Sweep the antenna at low power using an analyser or SWR meter.
4. Fine-Tune Make small coil adjustments and secure the final setting.
