Flexibility Meets Direct Burial

Low loss, waterproof, flexible and designed for permanent outdoor installation.

EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 combines a stranded copper centre conductor and reactive braid with a tear-resistant polyethylene jacket and protective petrol-jelly layer.

Messi & Paoloni EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 /.400" is a high-performance 10.3mm coaxial cable designed for installations where you need both excellent flexibility and genuine outdoor durability.

M&P specifically positions EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 as a cable capable of handling outdoor use, direct burial, tight bends and rotator-operated antennas within the same design.

Its low-loss RF construction uses a stranded copper centre conductor, physically foamed dielectric, full copper foil screen and dense reactive braid, while the outside of the cable is protected by a UV-resistant polyethylene jacket and a petrol-jelly layer designed to help prevent oxidation and improve water resistance.

INSTALLATION
Direct Burial

Tough UV-resistant polyethylene jacket is designed for permanent underground and exposed outdoor installations.

MOISTURE PROTECTION
Waterproof Construction

Petrol-jelly protection around the screening helps prevent oxidation and contributes to the cable's waterproof construction.

FLEXIBILITY
Flexible for Rotators

Stranded copper centre conductor and reactive braid allow tight routing and use with rotator-operated antennas.

VELOCITY FACTOR
87%

Triple-layer physically foamed polyethylene dielectric provides excellent low-loss RF performance.

Flexible Burial-Grade Coax

Built for Jobs Ordinary Flexible Coax Cannot Do

Standard flexible PVC-jacket coax is excellent inside the shack, up a mast or around a rotator, but it is not normally intended to be buried directly in the ground.

EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 is different. Its tear-resistant polyethylene outer jacket is specifically designed for outdoor and underground use, while the cable still retains the flexibility needed for tighter bends and moving antenna systems.

M&P describes it as delivering its best performance and attenuation for a 10mm stranded-core coaxial cable.

Low-Loss Performance

Premium Low-Loss Performance

At 20°C, attenuation is specified at only 1.4dB per 100m at 14MHz, 2.6dB at 50MHz, 4.6dB at 144MHz, 8.5dB at 430MHz and 15.3dB at 1296MHz.

This makes EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 particularly suitable for long permanent feed lines and VHF/UHF installations where losses in conventional coax can become a significant part of the overall system performance.

Cable Comparison

A Major Step Up from RG213 and RG-8X

Despite being approximately the same overall diameter as RG213/U, EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 provides substantially lower attenuation. The advantage over RG-8X is even greater.

Frequency EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 Belden RG213 Belden RG-8X Type
50MHz 2.6dB / 100m 4.6dB / 100m Approx. 6.9dB / 100m
100MHz 3.8dB / 100m 6.6dB / 100m Approx. 10.2dB / 100m
400MHz 8.2dB / 100m 14.1dB / 100m Approx. 21.7dB / 100m

Comparison figures use published Belden RG213 and RG-8X Type data. Performance varies between cable manufacturers and individual constructions.

Moisture Protection

Petrol-Jelly Protected and Waterproof

M&P adds a protective petrol-jelly layer within EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 to help reduce oxidation and protect the cable from moisture ingress.

Combined with the UV-resistant polyethylene outer jacket, this gives the cable the durability needed for permanent outdoor runs and direct burial.

Made for Permanent Outdoor Feed Lines

EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 is particularly useful when a feed line has to leave the shack, cross a garden or property underground and then continue up towards the antenna without changing to a different type of coax.

Flexible Construction

Flexible Enough for Rotator Antennas

The technical specification gives a 7 x 1.0mm stranded copper centre conductor with an overall diameter of approximately 2.9mm.

Combined with M&P's reactive braid, this provides much greater flexibility than would normally be expected from a rugged direct-burial cable.

Minimum bend radius is specified at 80mm for repeated bending up to 15 bends and just 40mm for a single bend or choke.

Reactive Screening

Dense 192-Wire Reactive Braid

The first screen is a 100% copper foil with an applied polyethylene layer designed to help prevent cracking during short-radius bends.

Over this is an 85% coverage reactive braid made from 192 copper-clad aluminium wires.

M&P manufactures the braid using a 24-spool process rather than a conventional 16-spool machine. The additional crossover points allow the braid to react to bending and twisting in a spring-like manner while maintaining excellent screening.

RF Isolation

Greater Than 105dB Screening

Screening efficiency is specified at greater than 105dB between 100MHz and 2000MHz.

This high level of shielding helps reduce unwanted RF ingress and radiation from the feed line, particularly useful in stations with multiple radios, amplifiers, antennas or nearby sources of interference.

High-Power Operation

High-Power Capability

M&P's 40°C power-handling data gives approximately 3013W at 14MHz, 1656W at 50MHz, 956W at 144MHz and 543W at 430MHz.

Maximum Peak Power
10,000W Maximum Peak Power

M&P specifies a maximum peak-power rating of 10kW. Actual power handling varies with operating frequency and cable temperature.

Applications

Where EXTRAFLEX BURY 10 Works Best

UNDERGROUND
Direct-Burial Feed Lines

Designed for permanent underground coax runs between the shack and antenna system.

MOVEMENT
Rotator Antennas

Unusually flexible for a burial-grade cable, making it suitable for rotator loops and moving antenna systems.

OUTDOOR
Long Outdoor Runs

Low attenuation and weather-resistant construction suit long permanent feeds exposed to the elements.

VHF / UHF
VHF and UHF

Low loss becomes particularly valuable as operating frequency and cable length increase.

POWER
High-Power Stations

Strong power handling makes it suitable for demanding HF and VHF transmit installations.

RG213
Replacing RG213

A substantial performance upgrade while remaining within the familiar 10.3mm cable size.
