New Pi 5 Version

Apache Labs ANAN-G2 Ultra

Next-generation high-performance SDR with Raspberry Pi 5, Core SDR, an 8-inch display and true stand-alone operation.

G2 Ultra Platform
Raspberry Pi 5 with Core SDR

The latest ANAN-G2 Ultra is the new Pi 5 version and runs Core SDR, giving the radio the processing power and software platform required for genuine stand-alone SDR operation without needing a separate PC.

Introducing the ANAN-G2 Ultra, the latest generation of Apache Labs' ultra-high-performance direct-sampling SDR platform.

The G2 Ultra retains the exceptional receiver and transmitter performance associated with earlier ANAN radios while providing a major step forward in onboard processing capability, stand-alone operation and user-interface flexibility.

At the heart of the latest version is an integrated Raspberry Pi 5 running Core SDR, alongside the powerful G2 FPGA architecture. The result is a radio that can operate as a complete stand-alone SDR with its own display and controls, or as a high-performance networked SDR with software such as Thetis running on a PC.

ONBOARD COMPUTER
Raspberry Pi 5

The new G2 Ultra platform uses Raspberry Pi 5 for significantly improved onboard computing capability.

SOFTWARE
Core SDR

Runs Core SDR locally, allowing the G2 Ultra to operate as a complete stand-alone SDR platform.

DISPLAY
8-Inch Display

Higher-resolution 8-inch display provides improved visibility of the SDR interface and operating information.

FPGA DSP
930 GMAC/s

Large FPGA provides up to 930 GMAC/s of DSP processing capability and supports ten hardware DDCs.

The G2 Ultra

The G2 Display Has Evolved into the G2 Ultra

The G2 Ultra builds on the original G2 Display model with a substantially upgraded front-panel experience.

  • Higher-resolution 8-inch display for much better visibility of the graphical interface
  • Expanded front panel with a wider array of control knobs and buttons
  • LED function indicators for clearer operating feedback
  • Ergonomic control layout designed to make the radio easier to operate directly from the front panel
  • CNC-machined aluminium front panel for improved shielding and isolation
  • Future Thetis control integration is planned, allowing the physical front-panel controls to be used while operating Thetis on a PC or laptop
Stand-Alone SDR

No PC Required

Unlike earlier ANAN generations, the G2 Ultra contains its own computing platform and full Linux operating environment.

With the integrated Raspberry Pi 5 running Core SDR, the radio can be used directly from its own 8-inch display and physical controls without relying on a separate desktop or laptop computer.

If you prefer a conventional PC-based SDR setup, the G2 Ultra can also be connected over Gigabit Ethernet and used with Thetis.

Gen2 Architecture

930 GMAC/s FPGA Processing

The G2 platform provides a substantial increase in signal-processing capability compared with the previous ANAN-7000 and ANAN-8000DLE MKII generation.

Its large FPGA delivers up to 930 GMAC/s of peak DSP processing capability and hardware support for 10 independent receivers, which can be assigned between the radio's two phase-synchronous 16-bit ADCs.

Generation Comparison

ANAN-G2 Ultra vs ANAN-7000 / 8000DLE MKII

Feature ANAN-7000 / 8000DLE MKII ANAN-G2 Ultra
FPGA DSP Peak Processing 240 GMAC/s 930 GMAC/s
Number of DDCs 8 10
Stand-Alone Capability No Yes
Built-In CPU No Yes, Raspberry Pi 5
Built-In SDR Software No Core SDR
Protocol 2 Support Beta Fully Supported
Balanced Audio Input No Yes
Remote / Thin Client Capability No Hardware capable, future feature set
RECEIVER
Dual 16-Bit Direct Sampling

Two phase-synchronous 16-bit ADCs provide direct-down-conversion receive architecture with independent filter banks for each ADC.

Hardware support is provided for up to 10 independent receivers assignable between the two ADCs.

TRANSMITTER
100W Direct Up Conversion

16-bit direct-up-conversion transmitter architecture provides up to 100W PEP on SSB, FM, RTTY and digital modes, together with 100W CW.

Typical IMD3 performance is specified at -68dB below PEP at 100W on 20m.

Audio
Balanced Microphone Input with Built-In Preamp

The G2 platform includes a balanced microphone input with integrated preamplifier, providing a high-quality audio path suitable for demanding voice operation.

Connectivity

Extensive I/O

  • Gigabit Ethernet LAN
  • 2 x HDMI 4K video outputs
  • 3 x USB ports
  • Audio line input
  • Digital inputs
  • PTT input and PTT output
  • DB9 with seven software-configurable open-collector outputs
  • SMA transverter connection
  • 10MHz reference input
  • Microphone input
  • CW key input

Future Functionality
Remote Operation and Thetis Front-Panel Integration

The G2 hardware is designed to support future remote and thin-client operation. Future support is also planned for using the G2 Ultra's physical front-panel controls while operating Thetis on a connected PC or laptop. These capabilities should be regarded as future feature sets rather than currently available functions.
