The SPE LAN-UNIT is a network interface accessory designed to extend the remote-control capabilities of compatible SPE amplifiers.

By connecting directly to the amplifier’s PORT communication connector, the SPE LAN-UNIT adds Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing the amplifier to be controlled from a modern web browser, a virtual serial port, or SPE Term_232-compatible software.

The unit is powered directly through the amplifier’s PORT connector, so no separate external power supply is required. This makes it a clean and convenient upgrade for operators wanting easier shack integration, local network control, or remote amplifier access via a secure network setup.

Operating Modes

Mode Connection Method Control Method
Ethernet LAN cable connected at power-up Web browser via local IP address
Wi-Fi Stored Wi-Fi credentials with no LAN cable connected Web browser via local IP address
Bluetooth No LAN cable connected in Bluetooth mode SPE Term_232 or equivalent software via virtual COM
Virtual COM Ethernet or Wi-Fi active TCP socket on port 7388, mapped to a virtual COM port

Web Interface Control

The SPE LAN-UNIT provides browser-based control of amplifier functions supported by the SPE protocol. Once connected to your network, the assigned IP address is displayed on the amplifier’s System Info screen, allowing access from a modern browser on the same network.

This is ideal for operators who want amplifier control from a shack PC, laptop, tablet, or other browser-equipped device without needing to connect directly to the amplifier by USB.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Connectivity

For wireless operation, the SPE LAN-UNIT supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks using compatible IEEE 802.11 b/g/n access points. Please note that 5GHz Wi-Fi is not supported.

When operating in Bluetooth mode, the unit appears as an SPE Bluetooth serial device and can be used with SPE Term_232 or equivalent software via a virtual COM port.

Auxiliary Outputs

The SPE LAN-UNIT includes two remotely switchable auxiliary outputs, which can be controlled from the web console. These can be used for suitable external switching tasks such as controlling additional cooling fans or engaging RX bandpass filters during remote operation.

The auxiliary outputs use an open-collector low-side switching arrangement and should be wired correctly with suitable relay protection where required.

Important Network Security Note

The SPE LAN-UNIT is intended for use on a trusted local network or through a secure remote access method such as a VPN or SSH tunnel.

It should not be exposed directly to the public internet or used on untrusted networks without suitable protection. Direct internet exposure and unencrypted remote access are not recommended.

Important Installation Note

The SPE LAN-UNIT is powered through the amplifier’s PORT connector. It cannot turn on the amplifier while the amplifier is switched off. For remote amplifier power-on operation, the REMOTE pin on the CAT port must be used as described in the amplifier documentation.

Important Note

This listing is for the SPE LAN-UNIT network interface only. Amplifier, network cables, computer, router, and other station accessories are not included unless stated otherwise.

Please check that your SPE amplifier has the correct PORT socket and compatible firmware before ordering.
