This high quality FTDI USB CAT cable is designed to provide reliable frequency data between your PC SDR software and compatible SPE Expert linear amplifiers. Originally designed for use with Flex transceivers running SmartSDR PC software, it is also suitable for other PC SDR applications that support USB serial CAT control.

The cable allows your SPE amplifier to determine the exact frequency your SDR software is tuned to. The amplifier can then automatically switch to the correct band and, where the amplifier has an internal ATU fitted, recall the appropriate ATU setting from memory.

One end of the cable is fitted with a DB-15 male connector, which plugs into the CAT connector on the SPE Expert amplifier. The other end is fitted with a USB plug for connection to a USB port on your PC. The cable contains a built-in USB to serial converter, so it appears on the computer as a COM, or serial, port.

This cable uses the highly regarded FTDI chipset, known for dependable compatibility with all current versions of Windows and most Linux distributions, although Linux compatibility may vary depending on your system and configuration.

The cable is high quality and screened, also known as shielded, to help reduce interference and maintain reliable communication between your computer and amplifier.

Please note that this cable provides frequency information only. You will also need suitable PTT switching and ALC cables between your transceiver and amplifier.

For amplifier setup, please refer to your SPE Expert amplifier manual or contact SPE support. For PC SDR software CAT setup, please refer to your software manual or contact the software vendor.

Important Note

This cable only provides frequency information to the amplifier. It does not provide PTT switching or ALC control. Separate PTT and ALC cables are required between your transceiver and amplifier.

Upon receipt of goods you have 14 days to return goods however the goods must be returned in original packaging and care must have been taken with the goods you wish to return. Under distance selling regulations you are not entitled to any refund on carriage charges or modification charges made at your request. Large items cannot be returned if they have been assembled, unless faulty.

Warranty Terms and Conditions

Outside of the 14 faulty return period, returned items cannot be accepted, unless covered by manufacturer's warranty. We will repair as much as possible on site however in exceptional circumstances products may have to be returned to the manufacturer of distributor.

For repairs/replacements under manufacturer’s warranty for any item please download a ML&S return form from the link above and return to ML&S with the faulty product.

International Warranty information

Warranty service for items we sell is available in the U.K. only, unless otherwise noted. It is your responsibility to pay freight for returned items to the U.K. and back to you for desired warranty coverage. All of our NEW products come with a minimum 12 month warranty, (Yaesu & Icom 24 months), with up to 90 days on second-hand equipment. Items returned for service must state "returned goods for repair" on the return air waybill or U.K. import customs duties apply and will be added to your invoice.
