Call 0345 2300 599The Sierra Radio Systems SIR-462 is a wireless DCN data radio for Sierra Station Controller systems.
It allows Sierra DCN, or Device Control Network, RS-485 data to be sent wirelessly between compatible Station Controller modules and installations. This can be useful where running a physical DCN cable is difficult, such as between buildings, across a site, between equipment cabinets, or to a remote antenna switching location.
The SIR-462 accepts DCN RS-485 data through the 485_A and 485_B terminals, then transmits that data wirelessly to another SIR-462 data radio configured in the same way. Multiple data radios can be used on the same channel, creating a shared wireless “party line” where all radios can communicate. Individual addressing is handled within the DCN data packet itself.
The radio uses LoRa modulation for improved range and reliability and can transmit at power levels from milliwatts up to 1W.
Key Features
- Wireless DCN data radio for Sierra Station Controller systems
- Sends DCN RS-485 data wirelessly between compatible modules or locations
- Uses LoRa modulation for improved range and reliability
- Accepts DCN data via 485_A and 485_B terminal connections
- Can be configured with other matching SIR-462 data radios
- Multiple radios can operate on the same channel as a shared wireless data network
- Individual addressing handled within the DCN data packet
- Adjustable transmit power from milliwatts up to 1W
- Programmable within the 860-930MHz frequency range
- Supplied/programmed information states 915.125MHz for USA licence-free operation
- 12V DC power input via 2.1mm barrel jack or green terminal block
- Useful where a wired DCN connection is not practical
- Suitable for remote stations, antenna sites, repeater sites, and equipment cabinets
Typical Uses
- Creating a wireless Sierra DCN link
- Linking Station Controller modules where cable runs are difficult
- Connecting equipment between buildings
- Remote antenna switching locations
- Repeater site monitoring and control
- Remote HF station control systems
- Shack-to-outbuilding control links
- Temporary or portable Station Controller installations
- Extending control to remote equipment cabinets
Station Controller System Role
The SIR-462 is used to extend the Sierra Station Controller DCN wirelessly.
A wired DCN connection normally uses RJ45-style cabling between Sierra modules. The SIR-462 provides an alternative wireless path by taking the DCN RS-485 A and B data lines from a compatible module and transmitting them to another data radio.
To add a data radio to a Station Controller system, power the SIR-462 from a suitable 12V DC source, then connect the A and B terminals from a Station Controller module to the matching 485_A and 485_B terminals on the data radio.
Basic Connection Guide
| Connection | Details |
|---|---|
| Power input option 1 | 12V DC via 2.1mm barrel jack |
| Power input option 2 | 12V DC via GND and VCC terminals on the green terminal block |
| DCN data A | Connect module A terminal to 485_A |
| DCN data B | Connect module B terminal to 485_B |
| Wireless link | Use with another SIR-462 configured the same way |
Wireless Operation
Multiple SIR-462 data radios can be used on the same channel. When configured in this way, the radios operate as a shared wireless DCN data network, with all connected data radios able to communicate with each other.
The radio can be reprogrammed within the 860-930MHz frequency range and at transmit power levels from milliwatts up to 1W.

Important Note
This listing is for the SIR-462 DCN LoRa Data Radio only.
A wireless DCN link normally requires at least two compatible data radios, with each radio configured correctly for the same channel and installation.
SIR-310 host adapter, installation kit, DCN hub, Station Controller modules, power supply, antennas, cables, and other accessories are not included unless stated otherwise.
A suitable 12V DC supply is required.
The supplied/programmed frequency information refers to 915.125MHz for USA licence-free operation. Customers outside the USA must ensure the frequency, power level, programming, antenna, and use are legal for their location before operation. This product does not automatically guarantee licence-free operation in all countries.
The Sierra DCN uses RS-485 data. It is not standard Ethernet and must not be connected directly to normal Ethernet network equipment.
