500W HF/6m Software-Defined Transceiver – Without Screen
An entirely new approach to high-power amateur radio. The FlexRadio Aurora AU-510 combines a 500W HF transmitter, direct-sampling SDR receiver, automatic antenna tuner and AC power supply into one compact system, designed for seamless SmartSDR computer and remote operation.
Everything You Need. No Unnecessary Screen.
The AU-510 is the screenless model in the Aurora family. It delivers the same 500W HF power and integrated high-efficiency transmitter technology as its screen-equipped equivalent, but operates through compatible SmartSDR software or an optional external Maestro controller. An ideal choice for computer-based shacks, dedicated SDR stations and remote installations.
The complete 500W HF station, in one chassis
The FlexRadio Aurora AU-510 fundamentally changes the way a high-power HF station can be assembled. Rather than relying on a separate SDR transceiver, linear amplifier, automatic antenna tuner and high-current DC power supply, Aurora integrates these components into one factory-engineered platform.
Its innovative polar-modulation transmitter delivers up to 500W PEP on supported HF bands and 200W PEP on 50MHz, while the 16-bit direct-sampling receiver and SmartSDR ecosystem provide flexible operating capabilities for DX, contesting, digital modes and remote operation.
The AU-510 features a single Spectral Capture Unit (SCU) supporting two independently configurable slice receivers. For operators who prefer controlling their radio from a computer or external Maestro, it provides an exceptionally capable high-power SDR without the expense of an integrated touchscreen.
HF PEP Output
Adjustable 1–500W PEP on supported 160m–10m amateur bands.
50MHz Output
Up to 200W PEP on 6m, subject to operating mode and limitations.
Slice Receivers
Two independent frequency and mode configurations within one SCU.
Internal ATU
Integrated high-power automatic antenna matching.
Polar modulation makes high power more efficient
Aurora uses polar modulation rather than a conventional linear RF amplifier. The system separates a transmitted signal's amplitude and phase information and processes these components through high-efficiency switching amplification with sophisticated digital control.
With approximately 80% nominal transmitter efficiency, Aurora converts substantially more electrical energy into useful RF output instead of heat. This is a major reason why a complete 500W station can fit in a chassis comparable in size to many lower-power transceivers.
Nominal Efficiency
Less power is wasted as heat compared with many traditional amplifier systems.
Specified AC Consumption
Manufacturer's published transmit power-input figure under stated conditions.
Integrated Station
No separate high-power amplifier, automatic tuner or DC supply required.
Actual efficiency and power consumption depend on operating mode, RF output and duty cycle.
Two receivers from one powerful SCU
The AU-510's single Spectral Capture Unit uses a high-resolution 16-bit analogue-to-digital converter operating at 122.88 Msps. Its SDR architecture provides two slice receivers, enabling operators to independently configure two frequencies and operating modes within the shared RF capture range.
Third-order amateur-band preselectors and sophisticated digital signal processing help control unwanted signals and deliver strong receiver performance. The AU-510 provides the important tools required for split-frequency DXing, digital-mode operation and general HF listening.
ADC Resolution
Direct-sampling digital receiver architecture.
Msps Sampling
High-speed RF digitisation and SDR processing.
Specified RMDR
Published AU-510 reciprocal mixing dynamic range figure.
Order Preselectors
Amateur-band RF filtering before receiver processing.
SmartSDR puts the entire station at your fingertips
The AU-510 is designed for operation with FlexRadio's SmartSDR ecosystem, giving users sophisticated receiver controls, panadapters, waterfall displays, transmit settings and audio routing through a compatible control device.
Whether using a dedicated shack computer, compatible external Maestro controller or a supported remote client, the software-defined interface provides substantial flexibility. Operators can configure their display and operating environment to suit everyday DXing, CW, data modes or more specialised station requirements.
SmartSDR
Flexible software control with two slice receivers and two panadapters.
SmartLink
Operate remotely through a suitable internet connection and compatible client.
MultiFlex
Two compatible SmartSDR clients can share access to the transceiver.
DAX Audio and IQ
Two digital audio and two IQ data channels for supported software.
The AU-510 is supplied without a built-in touchscreen, integrated Maestro front panel or HDMI monitor output. Operation requires a compatible SmartSDR computer, external Maestro controller or other supported client device.
500W automatic antenna tuning included
Unlike many SDR transceivers that require an optional tuner, the Aurora AU-510 includes a built-in high-power automatic antenna tuner capable of matching suitable antenna systems within its specified 3:1 SWR range.
The radio also provides two high-power antenna connections, one dedicated receive-only input and a transverter/exciter connection. These allow flexible station configurations without the need for multiple separate transceivers.
Integrated ATU
High-power automatic matching for suitable HF and 6m antenna systems.
Main Antenna Ports
Two connections for the radio's high-power RF antenna system.
RX-Only Input
Connect a separate receiving antenna for compatible operating arrangements.
Transverter Port
Low-level RF drive up to +10dBm for suitable external transverters.
Precision frequency control with integrated GNSS
The AU-510 includes an integrated multi-system GNSS receiver supporting GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS and SBAS. With suitable satellite reception, the system provides highly accurate frequency reference without the need for repeated manual adjustments.
FlexRadio specifies approximately 0.001ppm GNSS-referenced frequency stability and 0.5ppm with the internal TCXO. A separate high-performance GPSDO option can provide a precision 10MHz reference output for external station equipment.
The standard GNSS receiver is included. The enhanced GPS-disciplined oscillator and its 10MHz output are optional.
AU-510 vs AU-520: which is right for you?
Both models are supplied without an integrated screen and share the same maximum RF output, polar-modulation transmitter, automatic antenna tuner, wide-range AC power supply and SmartSDR platform. The AU-520 adds a second independent SCU and additional receiver resources for more demanding operating requirements.

Choose the AU-510 if...
You want 500W HF power, two slice receivers, an integrated tuner and SmartSDR operation, without paying for an extra SCU or integrated display you may not need.
Choose the AU-520 if...
You need four slice receivers, two independent receiver paths, true diversity, advanced contest band filtering or integrated SO2R, while retaining the same screenless design.
View AU-520 at ML&S →Built for modern digital operation
The AU-510 supports SSB, CW, AM, SAM, FM, RTTY and compatible software-defined digital modes. SmartSDR's DAX audio and IQ interfaces provide convenient connectivity for supported digital-mode applications.
The Aurora platform also provides support for SmartSignal adaptive predistortion and Controlled Envelope SSB (CESSB), with individual feature availability dependent on the installed SmartSDR software and firmware.
For FT8, RTTY and other high-duty-cycle modes, follow the latest FlexRadio guidance on output power, duty cycle and temperature. A 500W PEP rating does not mean unrestricted continuous-carrier transmission is recommended.
High-power operation without an external PSU
Aurora's internal supply accepts 80–264V AC at 47–63Hz, eliminating the need for a conventional high-current 13.8V DC power supply. This is particularly convenient for computer-controlled and remote installations, where minimising the number of separate devices simplifies station wiring.
The manufacturer specifies approximately 35W power consumption during reception and 675W during transmission under its stated operating conditions.
The AU-510 cannot be powered directly from a 13.8V DC station supply or battery. Portable use requires a correctly rated AC supply or inverter.
