Aurora replaces the traditional collection of a transceiver, high-power amplifier, automatic antenna tuner and separate DC power supply with one integrated system, reducing station cabling, complexity and heat generation.

The FlexRadio Aurora AU-510M combines the convenience of a conventional high-end transceiver with the flexibility of a modern software-defined radio. Its innovative polar-modulation transmitter provides substantial RF output without a separate amplifier, while the integrated Maestro-style front panel makes everyday operation intuitive.

Designed for HF and 50MHz operation, the AU-510M incorporates one high-performance Spectral Capture Unit supporting two independent slice receivers. Operators can monitor two separately configured frequencies and modes, with sophisticated panadapter displays and digital signal processing available through SmartSDR.

The built-in touchscreen offers standalone operation, while SmartSDR and SmartLink provide additional control through compatible computers and remote clients. From a permanent home station to a sophisticated transportable setup, Aurora makes powerful SDR operation remarkably straightforward.

A fundamentally different approach to high-power RF

Aurora's transmitter uses polar modulation rather than a traditional linear power amplifier. By processing amplitude and phase information separately using specialised digital control and switching-mode amplification, the system achieves very high efficiency.

FlexRadio specifies approximately 80% transmitter efficiency under nominal conditions. This significantly reduces wasted power and heat compared with many conventional amplifier arrangements, helping make it possible to integrate 500W capability in a remarkably compact chassis.

Two receivers. One highly capable SDR platform.

The AU-510M uses one Spectral Capture Unit (SCU) with two independently configurable slice receivers. Each slice can be assigned its own frequency, operating mode and receive settings within the capabilities of the shared SCU.

This makes it convenient to monitor different frequencies, operate split and keep track of activity across the band. Both slices are supported by FlexRadio's direct-sampling receiver architecture and sophisticated DSP processing.

Precision direct sampling and advanced DSP

At the heart of the AU-510M is a 16-bit direct-sampling receiver operating at 122.88 Msps. Its third-order amateur-band preselectors, DSP filtering and high dynamic range are designed for demanding HF and 6m operating conditions.

The best of SDR, with the controls you know

The AU-510M includes an integrated Maestro-style operating panel, combining an 8-inch IPS touchscreen with dedicated physical tuning controls and buttons. This gives operators direct control of the radio without needing a separate computer.

Its 1920 × 1200 display provides high-resolution frequency, spectrum and waterfall information, with support for two panadapter views. An external HDMI connection provides additional display flexibility for compatible monitor installations.

Operate at the radio or from somewhere else

The AU-510M's integrated front panel is only one way to operate. FlexRadio's SmartSDR ecosystem also supports computer-controlled operation and compatible remote clients, allowing operators to configure a station around the way they prefer to use it.

SmartLink provides supported remote access over the internet, while MultiFlex supports two compatible clients accessing the same radio. DAX audio and IQ channels provide useful connectivity for data-mode applications and other compatible software.

Some client applications and advanced functions may require separate licences or specific SmartSDR versions.

Integrated antenna matching and flexible connections

Aurora's built-in high-power automatic antenna tuner matches suitable antennas within its specified 3:1 SWR range. The AU-510M also provides two high-power main antenna connections, a dedicated receive-only input and a transverter/exciter port for suitable station configurations.

GNSS-referenced frequency stability

The AU-510M includes an integrated GNSS receiver supporting GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS and SBAS. With suitable satellite reception, it can provide highly accurate frequency control without regular manual oscillator adjustments.

The platform offers approximately 0.001ppm GNSS-referenced frequency stability and 0.5ppm internal TCXO stability. An optional high-performance GPSDO can provide an ultra-stable 10MHz reference output for compatible external equipment.

AU-510M vs AU-520M: Which is right for you?

Both models provide the same maximum transmitter power, integrated automatic tuner, AC power supply, 8-inch IPS touchscreen and Maestro-style physical controls. The main difference is their receiver architecture: the AU-510M features one SCU and two slice receivers, while the AU-520M adds a second SCU, four receivers and advanced multi-antenna contesting capabilities.

Built for modern operating modes

The AU-510M supports SSB, CW, AM, SAM, FM, RTTY and compatible software-based digital modes. SmartSDR's DAX integration provides digital audio and IQ routing for supported applications, including popular amateur-radio data-mode software.

The Aurora platform also includes support for SmartSignal adaptive predistortion and Controlled Envelope SSB (CESSB), subject to the functionality provided by the installed firmware.

Plug straight into the mains

The AU-510M includes its own wide-range AC power supply, accepting 80–264V AC at 47–63Hz. This removes the need for the external high-current DC supplies traditionally required by high-power amateur-radio equipment.

Manufacturer figures specify approximately 35W receive consumption and 675W transmit consumption under stated operating conditions.

Integrated display: The AU-510M includes the 8-inch touchscreen and physical front-panel controls.

Transmit output: Up to 500W PEP on HF and 200W PEP on 6m. Use properly rated antennas, coax, RF switches and accessories.

Antenna tuning: The internal ATU is intended for suitable antennas within its specified matching range.

Power: Integrated AC mains input; direct 13.8V DC operation is not supported.

GPSDO: High-performance GPS-disciplined oscillator is optional; standard GNSS functionality is included.

Software: Individual features may depend on installed SmartSDR firmware and software licences.
