The REZ Antenna Systems [Z]-17 Telescopic Whip range gives portable HF operators a choice of high-performance 17ft-class whips for different operating styles, pack sizes and deployment requirements. Available in standard stainless steel, compact stainless steel and ultra-lightweight carbon fibre versions, the [Z]-17 range is designed for POTA, SOTA, Field Day, emergency communications and general portable HF operation.

When paired with the REZ Scout base, the stainless steel [Z]-17 whips are resonant as 1/4-wave verticals from 20m through to 6m. They can also be used on 40m with the Scout 4017 loading coil, Recon 40 or Ranger 80 systems. For full modular coverage from 80m to 6m, they can be paired with the Ranger 80 system.

The carbon fibre version is designed slightly differently. Unlike traditional stainless telescopic whips, the [Z]-17 Carbon is intended to be operated fully extended, with band coverage achieved using matching units or loading coils rather than by adjusting whip length. It is naturally resonant on 20m and can be used as part of wider REZ antenna configurations with compatible coils and the XFORM 4:1 matching system.

Important Notes

Due to the length of these whips, the mounting tripod should be properly weighted during deployment. When using a [Z]-17 whip on the REZ [Z]Pod, a minimum of 2.3kg (5lb) of weight is recommended.

The [Z]-17 Carbon is designed to be operated fully extended. Band coverage is achieved using matching units or loading coils rather than adjusting the whip length.
