The Icom IC-705 brings many of the features normally associated with a full-size base station into a compact, battery-powered radio designed for portable operation.

From HF through 50MHz, 144MHz and 430MHz, the IC-705 supports SSB, CW, AM, FM, RTTY and D-STAR DV. Its broad receive coverage also makes it useful for general listening, including FM broadcast and airband reception.

The combination of battery operation, integrated GPS, Bluetooth, WLAN, microSD storage and a large 4.3-inch colour touchscreen makes the IC-705 particularly well suited to portable HF, POTA, SOTA and general field operating.

Output is up to 5W from a BP-272 or BP-307 battery, or up to 10W when powered from a suitable 13.8V DC external supply.

BANDS
HF to 430MHz

HF, 50MHz, 144MHz and 430MHz multimode amateur operation in one compact radio.

OUTPUT POWER
5W Battery / 10W DC

True portable QRP operation with up to 10W available from an external 13.8V supply.

DISPLAY
4.3-inch Touchscreen

Colour display with real-time spectrum scope, waterfall and audio scope.

CONNECTED
GPS, WLAN & Bluetooth

Integrated wireless connectivity and GPS functions for portable and D-STAR operation.

SDR Architecture

RF Direct Sampling

The IC-705 uses SDR technology developed through radios including the IC-7300, IC-7610 and IC-9700. Frequencies below 25MHz use RF direct sampling, reducing the number of analogue mixing stages in the receive path.

Above 25MHz, a down-conversion IF sampling system extends the SDR architecture through 50MHz, VHF and UHF.

Spectrum Display

Real-Time Scope and Waterfall

The IC-705 inherits Icom's high-speed spectrum scope and waterfall interface, allowing band activity to be seen visually and making it easy to identify clear frequencies and signals of interest during portable operation.

Touchscreen Interface

4.3-inch Colour TFT Display

The large 4.3-inch colour touchscreen provides an operating experience familiar to users of the IC-7300 and IC-9700, with direct access to settings, spectrum displays, waterfall functions and other operating tools.

Designed for Portable Operation

Compact, Lightweight and Battery Powered

Measuring approximately 200 × 84 × 82mm and weighing around 1.1kg with the BP-272 fitted, the IC-705 packages base-station-style functionality into a radio small enough for field use.

Battery operation provides up to 5W RF output, while a suitable 13.8V DC supply increases maximum output to 10W.

Wireless Connectivity

WLAN & Bluetooth

Built-in WLAN and Bluetooth provide wireless connectivity for compatible control and audio applications, including use with the optional Icom VS-3 Bluetooth headset.

Integrated GPS

Position, Logging & D-PRS

Integrated GPS supports location information, D-PRS, Near Repeater Search, GPS logging and automatic clock synchronisation.

D-STAR

Digital Voice, Terminal Mode and Picture Sharing

The IC-705 supports D-STAR Digital Voice together with Terminal and Access Point modes, providing access to the D-STAR network in addition to conventional simplex and repeater operation.

The Share Picture function allows compatible D-STAR users to exchange images, extending digital communication beyond voice alone.

microSD Storage

Recordings, GPS Data and Radio Settings

A microSD card can store user profiles, QSO recordings, TX voice memories, RTTY logs, GPS data, screen captures, firmware updates and programming information. A microSD card is not supplied.

Supplied Speaker Microphone

Programmable HM-243

The supplied HM-243 speaker microphone includes user-assignable buttons, allowing functions such as frequency and volume adjustment to remain accessible when the radio itself is mounted or carried away from immediate reach.

Portable Station Accessory

Optional LC-192 Backpack

The optional Icom LC-192 backpack provides a dedicated compartment for the IC-705 together with configurable storage space for antennas, batteries and other portable operating equipment.
